So you think the ballot is secret??

Thursday 22nd May is election day for Council and Euro-Parliamentary elections. Editorially we know how we will be voting. We will not reveal how we will vote except to say that before we would vote Labour in Tameside we would self emasculate, eat our own kidneys and watch tennis at Wimbledon !!!

However, there is one story which we like to keep alive, and that is the truth about the Secret Ballot. Basically, there is no secret ballot.

When you enter the polling station the person sitting at the desk asks for your polling card. If you don't have it  you tell them your name and address. They find your entry in the electoral register and cross you off so you can't vote twice. So far so good.

What happens next is not so good. Having found you in the electoral register and crossed you off, the polling clerk calls out the number which appears next to your name in the register, together with the registration reference of the polling district you live in. eg Waterloo ; WAT 1

This is a unique combination and identifies one person only................... the voter.

This unique number is then written on the counter foil attached to your ballot paper  and then your ballot paper goes in the ballot box. The counter foil is kept under council security (sic).

From now on tracing your vote is s simple clerical exercise.

Are you trying to frighten people away from voting Ukip?

Tameside Citizen said...

@ Carl Simmons Voter.

Quite the opposite, the more voters there are the less easy it is to trace the vote due to sheer volume.

But the main question is "Why have a procedure which allows the vote to be traced?

No idea who i just voted for said...

I'd gladly shout from the roof tops who i just voted for even more so who i didn't.

Its my first time voting haven't been registered for years. Probably wouldn't of registered this time if it wasn't for those threats get sent in the post.

Since i was hassled to sign up i made sure it wasn't wasted. Its a damn shame i couldn't find Roy on the list. It was a tossup between UKIP and Conservative and UKIP won. The alternative vote option would of been nice to have.

I'd vote for anyone who can beat the current lot.

When Roy West got 734 votes in 2008 it worried them all the more because it was a bnp vote.
Will ukip beat that score tonight, good chance they will.

Any British person who still votes main party is either: Stupid; insane; deluded; an enemy; a traitor; or selfish.
A few years ago it was a case of, look around at what they've done to our country. Now you don't even have to do that, it's absolutely unavoidable and indisputable.

Anonymous said...

This has been going on for years. The most obvious abuse of this kind came in 2004 when the EU parliamentary elections were all postal ballots. Many public sector workers were told by their bosses and by national newspapers that their ballot papers could be traced back to them via the barcodes on each voting slip. This put hundreds of thousands of people off voting BNP.

The big question here is whether Tameside MBC and other public bodies trace people's ballot papers when selecting people for promotion within said bodies? In all probability they do!

Extremely significant letter attacking Roy West discovered in the commons postbag, sent to Andrew Gwynne MP in 2008.
The letter with slanderous and libelous content was not sent anonymously.
The letter describes Mr West as having dangerous political views, accusing him of displaying overtly racist messages in his window.
"vote bnp"? poppies? flags?
The letter goes onto say, that Mr West spreads warped and twisted racist leaflets.
Remember this came after the 2008 elections when Mr West recieved 734 votes.

Labour's only significant electoral success has been in London.
The reason is that the immigrant population is now in a significant majority over the indigenous one.
Labour are now the party of the immigrant and the non-indigenous. This will increasingly become the case over the next few years.

Anonymous said...

Well done to UKIP who averaged a fantastic 29.87% in the 11 wards they contested in Tameside.
Their reward, under the patently unfair and undemocratic electoral system operating at council level was, nothing.
The Tory showing was pathetic and Labour's, desperately mediocre, especially considering they've got to try and win an election in twelve months.
Ironically Tameside Tories only highspot was the freak result in Ashton Hurst where they won by 18 votes. If UKIP HAD stood in this ward the Conservatives would have lost and been reduced to an even more pathetic 4 seats out of 57. Conservative leader John bell got lucky as it wasn't his turn to stand in Hyde Werneth where his Tory colleague, standing councillor Ruth Welsh, was comfortably beaten by Labour, courtesy of UKIP's extremely strong showing (21.9% of the vote).
The Conservative party nationally had better wake up before it's too late, especially on the issues of immigration and the EU.

@19:51 in my view a very two-faced posting. You know that Roy West was smeared in the elections.
UKIP don't allow ex-members of the bnp to join.

The result for ukip in Tameside means that more and more people are becoming warped in the way they are thinking.

Anonymous said...

I know that one man is already plotting to SMEAR ukip, in fact anyone that comes close to making a challenge to this rancid Labour Mafia we have in Tameside.

Anonymous said...

So if you voted ukip then what did you vote for?

Anonymous said...

If you voted ukip what do you think you've voted for, maybe a watered down bnp?
What were the main motivations behind your vote for ukip?

Anonymous said...

For those slow to catch on, one reason for voting UKIP is that they aren't the bungling incompetent imbeciles the BNP are (or were - RIP). The calibre of their candidates is generally far higher, and they don't have a leader who alienates and disgruntles just about anyone and everyone he comes into contact with who is competent.

Anonymous said...

The above are relevant questions about ukip because of the coming SMEARS against them.
Ukip are now a major threat to the Labour Mafia in Tameside, the only party that's come close. They did better than the bnp with only 11 candidates.

Anonymous said...

Voting UKIP sent a powerful message to the establishment parties that people want action on the issues of immigration and the EU.
The excellent and groundbreaking UKIP vote (with almost certainly a lot more to come in the EU result) shows they are now a viable 3rd/4th party - and maybe more - and has seriously upset the main party apple cart.
Tory MP Peter Bone made an excellent point yesterday, in saying that the centre right vote now accounts for over 50% of the total (meaning a potential massive majority in a general election) and the Conservatives may HAVE TO consider an electoral pact with UKIP if they (and Britain) want to avoid the appalling prospect of a Labour government.
However 'real' Nationalist UKIP are or not, they are definitely at the moment the least worst option and the only party, in terms of rapidly growing membership and public support capable of genuinely shaking up the establishment traitors.

Anonymous said...

@19:51 So if you try and join ukip will you tell them you are ex bnp candidate?
I sometimes wonder if you live in the real world.
Ukip are trying a purge at the moment on ex bnp in the party.
They don't want to come across as racist.

There's got to be a plain and simple reason why there's no CCTV footage to show.

There are many reasons why I voted for UKIP including, obviously, their policy of getting us out of the nightmare that is the EU.

I visited the EU parliament in Brussels three times in 2010/11 as part of a delegation at the invitation of Andrew Brons MEP and what we discovered there was pretty sickening especially the enormous corruption going on. It was not until my visits to Brussels itself that I realised just how desperately we need to get out of the EU if we are going to survive as a nation at all.

While we were in Brussels we met Nigel Farage, who was sitting by himself at a table outside one of the many cafes that surround the EU parliament, and I must say he was extremely friendly. I was surprised at how courteous he was given that he knew we were from a rival party (the naughtiest party in the world ever!).

You have to admit that he does come across very well in the media - so much better than NG.

"These results show London as an open, tolerant and diverse city,” tweeted Tessa Jowell. Dame Tessa, Labour MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, Minister for the Olympics under the last Labour government, is a liked and respected figure. Nevertheless, her tweet could have been precisely calculated to turn the stomach of anyone living more than 10 miles from Hyde Park Corner.

London, in her implication, is an open, tolerant and diverse city because so few of its voters went for Ukip in Thursday’s local elections, whereas so many did so in the rest of England. Not only is she saying how wonderful London is: she is also saying how frightful the rest of the English are. Unintentionally, she expressed the metropolitan sense of moral superiority of which the electorate has now had more than enough.

Yesterday I heard a BBC reporter, in a comical but telling slip of the tongue, describing London as “ethically diverse”. This is true. A strange coalition, first forged by Ken Livingstone, somehow knits together gay-rights activists with Islamist fanatics who want homosexuals thrown off cliffs, the more right-on sort of cosmopolitan entrepreneur with the most bloody-minded public-sector trade unionist. As long ago as 2010, Labour’s national membership was revealed to be more than a fifth drawn from London (though London is only 12.5 per cent of the national population), with five times as many members in Hampstead as in Hartlepool. This trend has strengthened, and Ukip’s incursions into Labour’s northern territory on Thursday are a reaction against it. Ed Miliband sits for a seat in Doncaster (where Labour just lost two council seats), but his heart, and his house, are in Primrose Hill.

I voted for UKIP to drag the electorate away from the liblabcon, to force the hydra parties to give us an EU referendum and to drag our political culture towards patriotism and nationalism.
UKIP in many cases stands for what people want it to be and the ultra-Tory views of it's leaders matters little.Where people were scared away from the BNP, they were encouraged to see Ukip as a safe alternative.
This has backfired and now UKIP are a major force and people are realising that most of the people they know want their country back how it was.

The banning of BNP members from UKIP is a mere public relations exercise, rather than being indicative of genuine anti-racist sentiment. They know that the biggest proportion of former BNP members would be no great loss anyway, and any such ban won't put off those voters who are switching ballot box allegiance over to UKIP. Farage and his party are treading a fine line and not giving the mainstream the ammunition they so crave. That means being fundamentally different from the big three and separate from the traditional far right.

There's a deafening silence from Cameron on the UKIP hurricane heading his way.
Just like there was during the council/EU campaign on the one issue that is UKIP's greatest strength (and Cameron's worst fear): Immigration.
The 'I' word is utterly toxic in Dave's new metrosexual, nicey nicey, pretend Conservative party. The whole stagnant, unprincipled blue edifice is in utter, cowardly denial on the issue.
After tonight's EU results we'll find out if the man's got ANY balls whatsoever.
Only when a large number of Tory gravy train riders, AKA MPs, see their seats genuinely under threat next May and start rebelling, and only when the Conservative Party faces a return to the political wilderness that is opposition, will there be serious rumblings of discontent. That's when Cameron's OWN position will be threatened, and THAT is when he'll act - because he'll HAVE to.
It was Cameron who cost the Tories an overall majority in the 2010 general election (against the worst and most unpopular opponents in British political history Gordon Brown and his bunch of abject, economy wrecking failures) because he totally blanked the issue of immigration in the campaign, when that and the economy should have been the foundations of it. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
No normal, patriotic Brit could vote for these traitors or any of the establishment parties.

I always saw Nick as the Neil Kinnock of nationalism. Neil fought off the powerful unions to make Labour electable. But it then took Blair to get Labour in.
Nick fought off the Neo Nazis to begin to make the party electable but it would have took someone else to take the party forward, Griffin wouldnt allow that.

Ed Miliband: it's not prejudiced to be concerned about immigration

The Labour leader said: "Some of the people who voted for Ukip came from that part of working Britain who do the right thing, who work hard for a living and are really, really struggling to make ends meet. They are in tough jobs but life is a real struggle for them.

"They are people who love our country but they are people who are saying the country is not working for me. They feel left behind by what has happened to Britain – some people, who in years gone by, would have been Labour till they die, some people whose parents have always been Labour, whose grandparents have always been Labour."

He said: "Immigration benefits our country as a whole. As the son of immigrants I know immigration needs to be properly managed. That is why I have changed Labour's position on immigration since 2010 because it is not prejudiced to worry about immigration. It is understandable

(so there you have it, Labour understand and they can be trusted when it comes to immigration)

Miliband's fake empathy with the northern working class has been caused directly by UKIP's massive vote in these formerly rock solid Labour heartlands.
The UKIP vote in the North East, where voting Labour is akin to breathing, is typical of this seismic voting shift and has proven unequivocally that large numbers of traditional White working class Labour voters KNOW they've been utterly abandoned by new-New Labour's complete disconnect from the problems mass, uncontrolled immigration has had on the working class.
