Widow awarded £40,000 after husband dies in agony at Tameside Hospital

A widow has been awarded £40,000 by the hospital where her husband died after claiming he was forced to lie on a ward in agony for five days with an untreated stomach condition. Brian Wade was admitted to hospital with a severe case of colitis, and succumbed to blood poisoning in less than a week. His family say he did not receive the treatment he desperately needed, and the last thing they ever heard him say was a desperate plea for help.

In response to the allegations, the Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust gave the Wade family £40,000 in an out-of-court settlement, but did not admit wrongdoing.
'Dad was such a strong man and to see him in such agony was horrible,' his daughter Denise said. 'He was left in pain on the ward.  'The last words I heard from him was him begging me to get him help. It was horrendous. This money can't bring my dad back - nothing can.' Read the full article here

I am so grateful for my good health to date. I do not intentionally wish to bash Tameside Hospital just for the sake of it but the failings at this particular hospital over such a long period of time would fill me with dread should I ever find myself as an in patient. On admittance the first job would surely have to be preparation of a last will and testament. Most people who I speak to about this hospital say the staff are good, but they are too few in number. Something really does need to be done to stop further tragedies such as the tragic death of Brian Wade. Tameside Citizen

TC, it's the old story, too many chiefs and not enough indians (the red ones).

We didn't have these problems when matrons ruled the roost.

At least the borough's schools are good and we've got some top quality Labour councillors. Jesus wept.

The gates went up on Public Footpath 27 today (although as it's got a lock it will presumably now be a private footpath for a select few only).
A hearty get f****d to every selfish and/or thick c**t involved in this fascistic action.

Of course, someone might put their own padlock and chain on the gate ensuring it is a genuine closure.

Can the repeat poster who's in favour of shutting the path come on and assure us they haven't got their own key, and that they will always walk the full distance round and not use the path for their own purposes.

Residents have been issued with keys for reasons of safety and maintenence but residents will not be using the passage as a short cut.

C***s live round here said...

@ Anonymous 17:32, What's to STOP them using it if they've got keys? what maintenance, it's the council's responsibility.
It was supposed to be being blocked off not used as a private area.
Let's hope the s**t really hits the fan next week after half term, when all those hundreds of people who've got no idea it's been blocked (sorry privatised) suddenly turn up to use it as normal.

Think yourself lucky, that you don't have to listen to howling dogs all day like we have to.
Everyday we get this, it's designed to cause upset and distress.
We don't have the right to complain.

I'm the repeat poster on fp27, and I can assure I don't have my own key. That is because I live two miles away in Hyde. All I have done is try and inject and bit of balance into the debate on this blog by seeing both sides of the argument, rather than just shouting from the rooftops about this heinous crime against humanity.

@ Anonymous 17:32, it is/was a Public Footpath, not a 'passage' or an alley to keep bins in.
Those gates look an absolute mess, let's hope they get graffitied regularly and reduce the house prices of the selfish tossers who shut the path.

@anon2223

And I very much doubt having a secluded little druggy den and crime alley there instead would do much for property prices either. I wonder if you'd entertain having the outside perimeter of your home redesigned in such a way that turns it into hoodlums' alley. The selfishness accusation cuts both ways friend And let's face it... since (according to you) this is first and foremost a numbers contest, if Tom Dick and Harry fancied shaving a bit off their walking distance via the outer rim of your property, your solitary protests would count for naff all when weighted against their 'inalienable rights'.

Anonymous said...

@ Sour grapes, if you don't have a key then the question obviously wasn't aimed at you but at the repeat poster resident who now has private access and a key but won't say why.
@ Anonymous 10:21, it isn't a 'druggy den' so don't talk rubbish. As for crimes they were nearly all 'in the area' and spuriously linked to the path by a miniscule few wanting it shut. It isn't 'secluded' either, it was established by the official report it's an extremely busy path.
The path was there before the houses so 'redesign' is irrelevant.
There's no selfishness from law abiding Public Footpath users who simply want to carry on doing as they always have.
It isn't a question of 'shaving' distance off, it's the lawful and legitimate use of a Public Footpath.
By that argument any Public Footpath with problems on it should be shut to suit residents and their superior rights, whilst simultaneously kow towing to local toe rags who've moved up the road.

Anonymous said...

That's irrelevant. If the opportunity exists to build a footpath adjacent to someone's property, then the owner's protests about any nuisance it might land them with should be disregarded. After all, why should the "law abiding majority" do without their new footpath and have their inalienable rights infringed because a selfish few resent the trouble it may bring? Some old folk may need that path as a shortcut to local shops.

Simply saying that in the case of fp27 the home and its owners were there afterwards seems entirely fatuous to me. If the choice of having a footpath (or not) is there to be made, the infantile "I was here before you" argument between footpath and property I'm quite sure would be laughable to most right thinking people.

Anonymous said...

@ Anonymous 17:51, I didn't 'simply say that the home and its owners were there afterwards', I was responding to the comment of anonymous 10:21, that referred to having a home redesigned that turned its perimeter into 'hoodlum's alley', that supposes a situation where alterations to a house created a new problem. As the path in question was there first and the houses 'designed' afterwards the comment is irrelevant and nonsensical.
Any hypothetical proposed new footpath has to take into account existing properties. The fact that houses or other premises in such a case had been there in use for many years would be counted as a significant and relevant factor in any planning decision. The same is true if a Public Footpath had existed for 60 years or more, i.e before the houses.
Such considerations of course don't apply in certain 'Taylorised' parts of Tameside where alleygating and fencing off has reached epidemic proportions.

"The same is true if a Public Footpath had existed for 60 years or more, i.e before the houses"

OMG. So what you're basically saying is that in deciding whether a footpath should be in place beside a property, one factor to take account of is whether someone was walking along it in 1985, 1967, 1949 etc etc. The issue is solely what the implications are for the present and near future.

The rules are now in place and its us the White Brits who are being made to kneel and say "sorry boss man forgive us we are simply white

What bottle we had ended in 1945,

I am white, british and bloody ashamed of what we have become simply an apathetic whinging mass of feeble anonymous beings who have to beg for "Our Rights".

@ Anonymous 21:18, I'm saying what the post said. If properties predated a proposed new footpath that would be counted as a relevant and significant factor.
Alternatively, if a Public Footpath predates properties that is a relevant and and significant factor.
The issue isn't solely what the implications are for the present and near future, it's past custom and usage as well, plus the fact that large numbers of people are being denied access to a public area and path they have had use of for a long period of time.

For decades we've heard about these nationwide NHS horror stories. If these were private hospitals they would have been shut down years ago and the police called in and people prosecuted and jailed.
But as we know the NHS is the ultimate sacred cow and no-one, not government, establishment, media, regulatory bodies or the rest will dare DO anything about these widespread, disgraceful and ongoing scandals.

Why anyone other than a savage, who was not rolling in enough money to live beyond violence's reach, would want to live in a place like London is beyond me.

Three men suffer serious injuries said...

Yea, you know who is responsible. The students who come to Manchester should be warned that this fate awaits many of them. Instead of being warned of the dangerous savages who loiter to prey upon them they are told to celebrate diversity and enjoy the cultural enrichment which is all around them. These three now know the harsh reality of the situation but many more victims yet to arrive in Manchester will have the same old lies peddled to them. Imagine bringing children up in Australia and telling them that crocodiles are harmless creatures and no caution is needed when in their presence, it would be irresponsible and dangerous, but the PC posse over here think promotiong a false vision of the fruits of diversity is actually more important than warning students of the pack animals who are waiting to pounce.

In America, the official statistics show White people are 3,900% (that's three thousand nine hundred per cent) more likely to be the victim of violence by Blacks than vice versa.
That's despite the liberal establishment (virtually all of whom are White) constantly bleating about White racism against the poor oppressed Blacks.
