Stop the badger cull e-petition
You may be unaware of a sinister plan to massacre tens of thousands of badgers in the hope that this may lead to a reduction in rates of bovine TB. The whole DEFRA plan is flawed and based on highly questionable scientific research. Dr Brian May of Queen has set up an e-petition calling for the cull to be stopped. Anyone who wishes to sign the petition can do so by clicking here.
I have had a few close encounters with badgers recently. If you watch the video below that I filmed, you will see a badger in daylight which has decided to come and eat some food which I left for a buzzard. Badgers are nocturnal and rarely do they venture out in daylight, but it seems the smell of the raw meat was too good to resist so the badger decided to join the feast.
After observing this badger closely over a couple of months I have discovered that it has exceptionally poor eyesight. If I stand totally still it will literally walk up to where I am stood and start sniffing around my feet, the second I move it runs away, and surprisingly it was quite a fast runner.
Incidentally and while on the subject of badgers, today I saw the body of a road kill victim lying just near the start of the M67 at Hattersley on the hard shoulder. They have no road sense and sadly often meet their end when trying to cross busy roads at night.
Throughout history, badgers, along with foxes have been unfairly persecuted in this country. Now thankfully we live in more enlightened times and much of the savagery has been outlawed, but we must remain vigilant as these vulnerable creatures still do face persecution at times, sometimes at the hands of illegal bloodsport enthusiasts (psychopaths in disguise) and sometimes from government agencies working on flawed scientific findings. Do your bit to prevent the slaughter and sign the petition.
