There will be First World War Tommies, Wellington's Foot Soldiers and Roman Centurions to meet; 1940s singers to watch and fun workshops to join in with too. All activities are free.
The event will run from 11am - 3pm at Museum of the Manchester Regiment and Setanii, both located in Ashton Town Hall. Everyone is welcome and the activities are suitable for all ages. There's no need to book - just drop in! Tameside Council
This is one of the many ways in which Tameside excels. If a similar event was held in Manchester the themes would be more like ‘A discovery of the urban art of Moss Side since 1997’ and ‘The impact of Amazonian villagers on Manchester’s role in the Industrial Revolution’. Tameside Citizen

I was in The Manchester regiment Museum on saturday, and a damn fine museum it is too!
if you have not been before, get in there. If you have then you probanly have not been in since the new exhibits have been placed on public view.
They have a Regimental Colour (flag) from the Penninsula War. Have you any idea how rare that is!!
Thanks for that TonyDJ. I am going on Wednesday. I will look out for you and say hello if I see you. Just out of interest - how rare is the colour flag from the Penninsula war? And on that subject let us have a very quick quiz on our history. I do know what the Peninsular War was, where it was fought and who the main protagonists were. Without cheating (using Google etc) who else reading this knows any details about the Peninsular War ranging from the causes of the war, the leading historical figures involved and when it took place?
All together is the call
Does anybody know anything about the the dog shit wars of Dukinfield fought mainly on the western front.
