Local authority representatives have taken six out of 13 places on the new Greater Manchester Commission for Economic Development, Employment & Skills.The commission, whose job is to improve Manchester's economic prospects, will be chaired by BT executive Mike Blackburn. Other members are: Bob Bibby of Bury Council; Jane Davies, Manchester Science Park; Mike Dinsdale, Brother Industries; Malcolm Edge, KPMG; Ian Fox, L'Oreal; John Merry, Salford Council; Sir Bill Moorcroft, Trafford College; Kieran Quinn, Tameside Council; Lord Peter Smith, Wigan Council; Howard Sykes, Oldham Council; Sue Williams, Trafford Council; and former ITV Granada managing director Sue Woodward, who is described as an “independent consultant”.Blackburn said it was “a first class group of senior figures representing all sectors of our thriving economy”.The commission has been set up as part of the Multi-Area Agreement, a partnership arrangement with government which involves Greater Manchester's 10 local authorities working with government agencies Jobcentre Plus, Learning & Skills Council and the North West Regional Development Agency to promote economic growth.
