£800,000 on road to nowhere

A council rated one of the best in the country for looking after its money has spent more than £800,000 on a road scheme that has yet to be given the go-ahead. Tameside council has spent £641,000 on development costs and £176,000 on the public inquiry for the Mottram-Tintwistle by-pass and associated Glossop spur scheme. It claims the money already spent on the scheme since 1995 should be seen in perspective against the overall cost and will provide benefits in the long run.The delay-hit public inquiry has sat for only 15 days, costing taxpayers more than £11,700 a day.Coun John Bell, leader of Tameside Conservatives, said the `botched' hearing has cost local people dear. The inquiry has been adjourned indefinitely to allow the Highways Agency time to draw up its FIFTH design of the 3.5-mile by-pass.The hearing started in June and was scheduled to last about 10 weeks. If given the go-ahead, the proposed £183m by-pass - backed by both major political parties - will take thousands of vehicles away from the congested roads of Mottram, Hollingworth and Tintwistle.A Tameside council spokesman said: "With regards to the public inquiry, while a start was made, information about specific road lengths and future predicted traffic movements supplied by the Highways Agency was in error. "The knock-on effect was that the inquiry needed to be effectively restarted."Coun Bell said while the Tory group supports the proposal `we are extremely concerned that £176,000 of taxpayers' money has been wasted on a botched public inquiry'. A recent Audit Commission report into how authorities spend cash and look after their finances gave Tameside council top marks. Last month the M.E.N. revealed £13.7m had been spent in all on the scheme - without a foot of road being laid. Manchester Evening News

Just want to ask John Taylor, why are you letting Liam the out cast Tory publicly call you are FUCKTARD on his Tameside eye?

Anonymous said...

I always know when Taylor is telling lies. His lips move.

The reality is that after last year's RWB family festival many local residents actually joined the BNP. There wasn't a single complaint from any resident.

Please get your facts right Wag and stop being a moron.

Does anyone it actually is John Taylor or Sean Parker-Perry leaving these comments? I mean, is TC presenting any evidence that they leave comments? Is there a sitemeter which would log IP addresses?

Or is this website just a fascist paranoia engine with most of the comments left by that fruitcake West?

Shoud have started with "Does anyone *think*..."

Thinking the same myself. a few months back there was some intelligent debate on here, interpersed with some oddball comments from the usual suspects. Now it appears, things are taking a sinister turn and every nutter in the land appears to frequent the blog. Please get a grip TC, some useful stories are getting lost in the nutters' fight!

CoL - I am beginning to question if these comments are left by SPP. John Taylor is deffinately a no, but SPP I think I can say he hasn't been making the recent comments - he isn't *that* stupid.

Well I seen questions on yahoo answers with a link to this blog.

You can be sure that Taylor has left many posts on this blog, he has had a rant about this blog on his website many times.

Also a mad left wing twat called Sceptic from yahoo answers.

Children of lewin you are the biggest twat that posts on here.

Tom Hagen said...

Fuck off Roy, we know it is you. I doubt CoL is actually offended by your comments, but it is expected from a mad bastard like yourself.

John Taylor has probably posted on here before, but he has probably not done half of the posts on here as "Wag". Yes, he has admitted to reading TC on his website.

Anonymous said...

Hey Liam if I'm mad then what would that make you? you spend a lot of your time Stalking coucillors and following them home, thats why Perry sent the police to you, look at the difference between this blog and your Tameside eye, you show all the signs of someone with a mental health problem and you are turning in to a serious stalker. You are the one calling Sean Parker Perry pissy pants on this blog. I have a number that you can call to help you with these early signs of mental illness.

THE Highways Agency was branded 'shambolic' and 'not fit for purpose' at a public inquiry into the controversial Mottram to Tintwistle bypass.

Opponents of the £115m scheme called for the hearing to be adjourned after substantial new evidence was submitted just days before it was due to start.

The proposed 3.5-mile road would take motorists away from the congested roads of Mottram, Hollingworth and Tintwistle and link Tameside with the A628 Woodhead Pass to Yorkshire.

A COUNCILLOR has been cleared of stealing possessions worth more than £200 from his ex-girlfriend's car.

Sean Parker-Perry, a member of Tameside council, was found not guilty by a jury after a two-day trial at Minshull Street Crown Court.

Judge Bernard Lever criticised the decision to bring the case to trial for what he described as "jealous and vindictive behaviour to do with a broken relationship".

Mr Parker-Perry, aged 30, of Ashworth Lane, Mottram Moor, said ex-girlfriend Lisa Knowles had put him through "nearly 18 months of hell" by making accusations about him.

He had been charged with stealing a portable CD player, a mobile phone charger and hands-free kit.

The court was told that Mr Parker-Perry had towed away a Vauxhall Corsa - which he had bought with Miss Knowles - from her home in Hollingworth, near Glossop, in August last year. They had split up a year earlier.

Children of Lewin asks if I present any evidence of Sean Parker-Perry or John Taylor posting on this blog. The answer is I do not and I never have claimed they do. I do not use a site meter and I never check or harvest IP addresses, I don’t even have any idea what kind of hit rate this blog is getting.

There are at least two ‘excellent’ blogs in the Tameside area. CoL seems to have the run of the ‘No Mottram Bypass’ blog and Liam has the Tameside Eye blog. If I were comparing the Tameside blogs to Newspapers I would classify the No Mottram Bypass blog as a heavyweight broadsheet such as The Guardian. I would compare Tameside Eye to a Daily Mail type tabloid and this blog would certainly be placed in the ‘red top’ Sun/Star/Mirror bracket.

This blog was never set up with the intention of becoming anything other than what it is – a talking shop. Considering it is totally un-moderated and especially considering the massively differing viewpoints of the various contributors (or claimed contributors!), it is amazing that it has never descended into chaos. In the whole time this blog is been up and running I have only ever deleted a handful of posts – and most of them were relating to unsubstantiated allegations of a sexual nature.

I think this blog has served a purpose. I have discovered things on this and some of the other Tameside blogs that I would have never read in the Advertiser or Reporter. Watching how various contributors react to questions or criticism is a real eye opener. I have never failed to be impressed by Mr UKIP. He does not resort to foul or abusive language if challenged with an uncomfortable truth and also does his best to give a comprehensive answer to questions asked of him or his Party. Tony DJ makes some excellent if un-PC points, and then there is Roy West. Where do you start when discussing Roy West and his world view? I can sum it up with two words – passion and fanaticism. Mr West is so passionate in his beliefs and fanatical in righting the wrongs perpetrated against in the past that I can honestly say I have come to admire his determination. His prolific posting can become a bit of a strain at times, but without him the place would just not be the same.

I could easily alter the blog so all comments go in a moderation queue which would allow me to weed out posts of which I don’t approve of, but in my opinion that would destroy the spontaneous nature of some of the discussion that takes place on here. Over to you folks for comments!

Thanks for the vote of confidence TC, not sure I enjoy being named along with two BNP members.
I am no supporter of the BNP in Tameside or elsewhere.
I do try to discuss the issues in as polite and calm manner as I can.
I have no idea as to your identity or for that matter the veracity of any other poster.
I do feel that I have a duty to put UKIPs view on local stories and issues, on this and other blogs.
I do feel that the quality of this blog has been reduced by the sheer quantity of posts from certain members. I would like to see some type of self moderation from some members, I am sure you know the parties I am alluding to. A quiet word in the ear may be helpful.

Mr UKIP,

I have to agree with you. Cut the quantity from the usual suspects and allow real debate to shine through.
