School Uniform, the official policy. Opinions and views, but no law.

It is soon going to be "Back to school" with all that that implies in cost.  As a service to our readers we provide you with the official policy on school uniforms. The single largest cost at this time of year.

The Department of Education has produced a booklet on School Uniform which can be studied hereThere are some interesting views and observations which clearly show that if the guidelines are adhered to then there will be few problems in state schools regarding uniforms. They must be of good quality, reasonably priced, there should not be a monopoly of supply nor should they be of such cost that they de facto exclude pupils from school.

"There is no legislation in place that deals specifically with school uniform or other aspects of appearance ".

So says the second sentence of the document. School uniform is to be decided by the Board of Governors though in principle the Department of Education approves of it. Similarly the Department sees the importance of school uniform in building cohesion (THAT word again!) but accepts that some slack be be granted in the case of individual culture, belief or personal circumstances.

The bottom line is that uniform is not enforced by legislation but by school rules and the rules cannot be so strict as to lead to a pupil being prevented from attending school.

But please read the document yourself, and remember who provided it for you!

I always cursed school uniform, uncomfortable, too warm in summer and so on but looking back I think they were a good idea.
At my high school we all dressed the same, we were all working class boys and we mostly all got along. At college on the other hand, we were all different and dressed differently.
I was part of the nerdier end of a 'mosher' group that included a handful of goths, outside of them I knew barely anyone and didn't want to. The clothing differences made all too obvious that the middle class kids were different from us, they wore expensive clothes, drove to college and ate at the overpriced cafeteria rather than a packed lunch or going into Ashton.
I think schools should have uniformity, no rival ethnic groups, religions, classes, sexes or whatever. It contributes to a healthy childhood.

Good post Serpent slayer. Whether I agree or not is no matter. It was reasoned, well written and made several valid points.

Police launch manhunt for three children after they were heard using homophobic words said...

Two boys and girl are described as being between 10 and 13-years-old - police are treating it as hate crime

A Merseyside Police manhunt was underway after a boy as young as 10 hurled homophobic abuse at a Merseyside couple.

The 18-year-old women was leaving Sankey Valley Park, in Newton-le-Willows, with her female partner aged 19-years-old and a male friend aged 21-years-old when they were verbally abused by three children.

The incident happened in Bradlegh Road and the two boys and one girl were described as being between 10 and 13-years-old.

One of the boys is described as white, aged between 11 and 12 years old, about 4 feet tall, with black cropped hair and wearing a dark blue polo shirt and dark blue denim jeans.

The second boy is aged approximately 10-years-old and described as white, about 4 feet tall, with short dark spiked hair and wearing dark blue denim jeans and a baggy white T-shirt.

The girl is described as white, aged between 12 and 13-years-old, approximately 4ft tall with longer ginger hair that was worn in pigtails. She was wearing a white dress with a floral pattern.

Detective Constable Michelle Cliffe said: “This was a deeply upsetting incident for the woman and her friends. Merseyside Police take any reports of hate crime or racially aggravated incidents extremely seriously and have specially trained officers dedicated to investigating them and bringing those responsible to justice.

“People who carry out these offences should be left in no doubt that their behaviour is totally unacceptable and I want to take this opportunity to reassure the community that we are determined to take robust action against them.”

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed this incident or recognise the descriptions of the offenders to contact them on 0151 777 6811 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I think this group of adults should be named and shamed. Only spite or extreme fragility would cause such a thing.
I imagine it's spite by a handful of deviants, they do things that no normal person can find acceptable and enjoy the privilege of having a bunch of black clad mercenaries with helicopters and a national spy network to wipe your crocodile tears and break down the doors of people who disagree with you.

@ Police Launch Manhunt...would any police officer care to comment on the progress into the 'Room to Let. Pakistanis Only' lamppost advert featured recently on this blog (it's still there). It should be easy to track them down as two mobile phone numbers are included.
The advertisers are adults not 10 year olds. Ah but of course they're not White (any potential White landlord advertising for 'Whites Only' in say, Knutsford, would get the rapid and full force of the law with no expense spared) and therefore: a) They're not easy targets, and b) Investigating THEIR behaviour would adversely affect your career, whereas persecuting White children for a bit of namecalling is to be positively encouraged and is highly career beneficial.

Any attempts (now being mooted) by the British government to put British army 'boots on the ground' in Iraq for 'training the locals', we know where that leads, should be resisted with absolute resolution by anybody genuinely concerned about the survival of our nation.

Our borders (which are now totally out of control); Bradford; Luton; Tower Hamlets et al are where British soldiers SHOULD be.

I see the Brit army as being nowt but mercenaries these days, like the police. They do what the people paying them want and that is all. No consideration for what is right, love of country or otherwise. The force police us at home and the forces police people abroad.
