Tameside hospital to have high death rates investigated

Tameside hospital is to be investigated over its high death rates following a shocking report into patient neglect at another NHS trust.

Tameside is one of five hospitals to be subject to a probe in light of today's Francis Report - which found that there were hundreds of avoidable deaths at Mid-Staffordshire NHS Trust between 2005-9.

Sir Bruce Keogh, medical director at the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) will launch an immediate investigation into Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - as well as Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust - immediately.

The hospitals were chosen because they had the worst mortality rates according to the so-called Summary Hospital-level Mortality Indicator (SHMI) for two successive years to 2012. Read more here

I have an interest in this issue. My father died in Tameside Hospital last year. My mother died six months ago in Willow wood hospice, 4 days after transfer from Tameside Hospital.

The patients were clearly not getting the best treatment they deserved. The staff were giving the best they could.

The big problem I could see was that there were not enough nursing staff. Even the best most dedicated nurse can not be at two bedsides at the same time.

When they were at my parent's bedside, they gave great service...unfortunately there were other bedsides which also required their attention.

Meanwhile we spend money on overseas aid and overseas wars. Perhaps The Margaret Oldhan memorial hospital should relocate from Kenya to Tameside?

The hoody pictured near the hospital does not look well.

tony dj, you are right about the level of nursing staff at Tameside Hospital.

My own mother died in TH and there was one nurse running the ward. She told me she also served the patients meals as well.

There are too many shiny arses in offices at hospitals these days and not enough on the shop floor. It's the same in industry and local government too.

We are too busy helping other countries rather than putting our own house in order.

Britain's now the migrant magnet of Europe: CLICK HERE said...

Is it any wonder that our hospitals are failing, our roads are full of potholes, essential services are being scrapped? These are all signs that we are a nation hurtling into serious decline. How do the elite respond? They flood the country with migrants to oil the wheels of the insatiable demands of the cheap labour market. Gone are the days where workers could expect a fair days pay for a fair days work. Instead we have a growing wealth divide where the haves are encouraged to exploit the have not’s. The tragedy is that nobody will speak up about this. The people who should support the workers, Labour and the trade unions are in bed with the Tories and the rest of the elite and they're all working to the exact same agenda. Red or blue in No10 makes no difference. They agree on everything and create a phoney pantomime in the house of treason where they pretend to have differences of opinion. Only a revolution can save our civilization now, but with the pussification of our men and the ever growing power of the new arrivals the chances of this diminish as every minute passes. RIP Britain, alas I knew ye well.

I know several elderly people who are terrifiied of going in Tameside Hospital.
The problem with all these failing hospitals, as with the massive state sector in general, is the almost complete lack of accountability. If people are guilty of gross misconduct, especially when lives are at stake, they should be convicted and severely punished. This also goes for managers who fail to staff wards properly.

Gwynne says all is well, nothing to see here, now move on please.

Gwynne's advocating a new Chief Executive.
That will do, for a start.

Taylor's column, sorry regular letter, is in the Labourtiser. Guess the subject. You've got it, dog s**t.
It's strange that someone who talks so much s**t, talks so much s**t about the subject of dog s**t. I use this path all the time and there's hardly any.

Muslims in deadlock with Lancashire County Council over halal school meals said...

Geoff Driver, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “I am disappointed that the Lancashire Council of Mosques is asking parents not to allow their children to have halal meals provided in our school kitchens.

“I am prepared to discuss this, but the council of mosques must recognise that the ccouncil will not provide meat from animals that were not stunned before slaughter.”

Good on Geoff Driver. What is the Tameside policy on halal being served in schools?

Of Course Gwynne does not find wrong at Tameside Hospital, his Council Labour mates are hand in glove with Hospital Committees (for extra bunce)
Even the local PCT attracts Tameside Councillors as does every other group of self serving thick bastards.
Even J.Taylor had his murky mitts on Hospital Committees.
Its one big roundabout where the dross ride in one group, then drop out after stashing the bunce and then getting back on the gravy train, and so on and so on,round they go.
It needs de-railing big time and the mass culling of MP`s,Councillors and local administrations at present stuck into the trough we fill with loot.

Have you got details of Taylor's involvement in Tameside hospital?

Councillors should be banned from serving more than three terms. Stagnation breeds complacency, cliques and corruption.

I personally think your photo on this is offensive. I have never had any problem with this hospital. They helped myself and my family.
