Let's hope these people realise that a bypass is not the answer. The obvious solution is a weight restriction on the A628 which would lead to heavy vehicles taking the M60/M62 route instead.
It was odd that I was only thinking about the bypass, which would be environmental vandalism on an epic scale, when I was at the highest point in Tameside yesterday. Then when I received the Advertiser I saw the article above and hence this post. From Wild Bank Hill (see the video below) you really can survey the proposed route in fine detail. To even contemplate building a motorway through that stunning landscape truly beggars belief. Let's be grateful to the determined campaigners who saved this piece of outstanding natural beauty for future generations.

'These people are British.' No they aren't.
'Two million acres of green fields may have to be concreted over.'
Then another two million, then another two million...
This country will be finished in five years if something isn't done.
Of course the by pass is needed. It's the natural extension of the M57!
The proposed bypass would not be a motorway single lane with crawler lane just like the Stocksbridge bypass on the other side of Woodhead. Take a trip on the Hayfield to Chapel-en-le-Frith road and film the Chapel bypass and see how nature has screened that road. Less sensationalism and mor objectivity please.
Build the bypass by widening the existing road and bulldozing the huses on one side. Houses can be rebuilt easewhere and owners compensated.
Once our precious local countryside is gone it's gone for ever.
Yes, the bulldozer option is the next best thing barring a HGV ban.
Too many people, hence too many cars, particualarly in England. The rest of the UK will soon follow on our current course.
This is just the start, it's all set to get a LOT worse as the maternity wards fill up with the massively expanding number of immigrant offspring.
It's time to throw class distinctions, petty squabbles, especially about English/Welsh/Scottish/Irish etc out of the window and for all BRITISH PEOPLE to stand together.
Longdendale and the surrounding area means alot to me spiritually, government rejected idea of reopening railway but now there thinking of building a motorway.i wil do everything i can to stop such a outrageous proposal.
And for a minister to say that more green land has to be given up to accomodate inmigrants is also a vile thought
