Government loses vote in Parliament over plan to axe Fusiliers battalion

A motion calling on the government to reverse the disbandment of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was passed in Parliament today. The result was an overwhelming 57 votes to three.
The debate was scheduled by the Backbench Business Committee at the request of John Baron, the Tory MP who has led the campaign against the axing of the battalion. Mr Baron, a former captain in the Fusiliers, said the move was purely down to 'political calculations'.

The petition was handed in by veteran Fusilier and campaigner Dennis Laverick, from Bury, and Tory MP John Baron, who secured a debate in Parliament over the issue. They were joined at Downing Street by Greater Manchester MPs Ivan Lewis and Jonathan Reynolds. Read more on the Manchester Evening News website.

Credit where credit is due. Jonathan Reynolds MP deserves praise for supporting the campaign which led to this motion being passed. It is worth watching proceedings in parliament today. You can watch it on the BBC iPlayer by clicking here. If you start viewing 4.20 you will hear an impressive introduction from John Baron, the Conservative MP for Basildon and Billericay, soon followed by the MP for Stalybridge & Hyde. Mr Baron lists some of the achievements of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers such as; most VC's won in the Great War and most battle honours in the British Army. Tameside Citizen

Looks like Gri££in is in trouble again said...

Check out the hideous BBC reporting. First study the photograph of Griffin. Look at his false eye - that is exactly why they have used that picture. Then what about this line "Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell". Since when has Thatchell been a human rights campaigner? The paedo ridden BBC really should be dimantled.

Come on lads, nobody is watching now, snouts back to the trough, oink oink said...

The Speaker of the House of Commons is attempting to block the publication of MPs’ expenses that are believed to show that some rent their taxpayer-funded homes to each other.

Great news! bad news for new charter housing!
Rent to be paid directly to all new charter tenants. Remember, that 90% of new charter tenants get housing benefits.
New charter will never be out of court in their bid to get their tenants to pay the rent.
Best news all day that.

What is the definition of a Fascist? Someone who is beating a liberal in a debate.

Just Deserts said...

@ Anonymous 15:01, dead right. New Charter will reap the benefits of their previous actions. Let's see them get money from all the parasites who've spent the rent money down the off licence.

With all the unpaid rent, which will surly follow this government ruling.
The police are gong to be very busy carrying out new charter's dirty work for them.?

The British people should be able to refuse service to whomsoever we want on whatever grounds we want. Thats how it used to be and that way the British people get our own culture of choice in our own homeland without having political correctness stuffed down our throats by the state on behalf of special interest groups.

Our own homeland for our own people and our own culture.

Interesting speech by Reynolds; it's just a pity he doesn't appear to have any conscience when it comes to matters pertaining to Israel.

Question: What do Chinese lanterns and the plastic wrapping for four cans of beer have in common lol??

All those commenting about New Charter Homes Ltd should know that the company became a non-profit making charity in December 2011.

I don't know why they are becoming a charity. There are advantages in being a charity, for example it is easier to evict a troublesome tenant if the charity can claim that having that person as a tenant goes aganst the stated aims of the charity.("No Fascists" anybody?)

@ tonydj, it will be out of the goodness of their hearts. They do a 'lodda good work for charidee mate' (but don't like to talk about it).

along with his loyal unthinking supporters within the party. If 90% of the party had opposed his rule, it would have been impossible for him to remain in power. Andrew Brons election challenge last year was a last chance to save the party, and that should've been obvious to anyone.

It was a rigged election everyone understands that.
Older nationalist warned, that if Griffin got his hands on the British National Party he would destroy it.

NUT: Multiculturalism under constant attack, racism rife in schools said...

Performance poet Benjamin Zephaniah says black and Asian pupils are turned off history because they are told only "half the story" in British schools.

The poet, who works in schools, also says multiculturalism is under attack.

Zephaniah told the BBC: "The reality is for young black kids in school, the majority of them know that when it comes to history, especially the history that includes the Caribbean and Asia, we have only got half the story.

"That's why all over Britain in our communities we have classes in people's front rooms and community centres teaching us the real black history.

"We get kids that are playing truant in the week, still going to classes on a Saturday to learn the real history.

"Most of the history teachers that I come across cannot name any early African philosopher."

Zephaniah also expressed concerns that multiculturalism was under attack, saying that "to be against multiculturalism is anti-British".

The NUT, which sponsors the event, used it to launch a set of new educational materials tackling racist and religious hate crime for schools.

They also highlight the persecution of black people during the Nazi regime.

NUT general secretary Christine Blower said: "Racism in schools or our communities needs to be eradicated. As multiculturalism is being attacked on a daily basis, we need to celebrate the diversity of modern Britain and work together to raise children who are proud of themselves and their communities."

So I tek a Reggae Riddim an build me poetry,
I could try be more personal
But youÕve heard it all before,
Pages of written words not needed
Brain has many words in store,
Yu could call dis poetry Dub Ranting
De tongue plays a beat

In de darkness
An under de spotlight,

An den I got a dread degree
In Dreadfull Ghettology.

Dis poetry stays wid me when I run or walk
An when I am talking to meself in poetry I talk,

If Zephaniah's 'poetry' represents the benefits of multiculturalism you can shove it. He isn't fit to tie Philip Larkin's shoes.
