Denton Sainsbury’s car enthusiasts meeting

I come across this gathering of young car enthusiasts at Sainsbury’s in Denton. What a pleasant and courteous bunch of young people. This is the type of get together I would have loved to attend when I first started driving and was into modified cars.

2 hours since this article was posted and no wild green conspiracy theory from John Hall of Denton. I'm amazed!

This used to be a peaceful area now we are plagued with traffic pollution and noise from rowdy teenagers. If the motorway was closed down none of this would be a problem.

That's what happens when you set up shop in a doss-hole like Denton. A once-decent working class area now a den of deliquents, chavs and wiggers. Much like the rest of Greater Manchester. Some areas of Tameside are still worth residing in but sometimes it feels like you're right on the edge of a stinking sewer of a city.

I'm assuming all this was done with the permission of Sainsburys?? Or was it a 'just turn up' event in which case my views might be different. And I wonder what Mr Hall's view on traffic pollution with all those cars?

boo, hiss, shame on them said...

Tameside Council featured in The Guardian today in yet another shocking profits before care scandal highlighting the systematic neglect of the elderly.

Amazing how when the strange named
Anons on TC get the facts stuffed into them they change their Anon
names as though its another critic.
I make a note of those anons who disappear up their own orifice`s,however perhaps its time again to remind the decent objective Tamesiders of how TMBC is directly complicit in making its Electorate physically ill because of its top spot for air pollution.
Its a case of they bury their dead and dying with their obscene and deplorable actions which increase traffic volumes.
I see a Mottram Politician is having another stab at a ByPass
well the numbers driving from Glossop,Hollingworth and Tintwhistle up Mottram Moor (mainly single lane slow moving)are far far fewer than the 350,000 to 400,000
daily vehicles arriving at the M67.M60.A57 Interchange locality
and an area where 47,000 folk live
stuffed full of pollution toxins.
Lets have some of your open rural
countryside down here, and you can have our 350,000 to 400,000 daily traffic volumes up there.
Even the Highways Agency and TMBC gave evidence that a ByPass would
make way for increased traffic down the M67 and add to the existing congestion in Audenshaw and Denton.Update yourself those who are critical of my concerns for the children, infants, aged, already infirm and adult folk in a area with 5 times the population of the whole of Longendale.
As for FSF who were you last week
surely not the still running rabbit.
Have you read the latest on up to 50,000 deaths each year because of air pollution, time you did.
J.Hall

@J. Hall...

The congestion in that region is horrendous - I only have to see the number of 'Hadfield Transport' (etc) HGVs that have to re-route off the motorway and up Clarendon Road and Matley Lane and then down Mottram Road toward Broadbottom. By your logic not a single motorway would've ever been built in case it encouraged more vehicles on to the roads. It isn't Spaghetti Junction that's being proposed.

As for the lame arguments about a few local 'beauty spots'... open your eyes and you'll notice endless acres of beautiful countryside and moorland right on our doorstep.

You're so easy to wind up John. Wake up and smell the CO2. A new bypass built by local contractors from Carillion is just what we need to boost the fledging economy of Tameside.

As for having countryside on our doorstep. Where do you live? Tameside is full of council houses for the underclass, sorry overspill. Time we knocked them down for a new estate from that nice chap at Rowland Bardsley and gentrified the area for the middle classes.

Sounds like you're unhappy John. Who would of thought that Denton, once a force to be reckoned with in the industrial revolution would be in abundance of trees and other greenery.

How long have you been living in Denton John? Rumour has it you've been going since 1783.

We can help you move to the Amazonian rain Forrest where there are still a few trees left. Although I'm not sure you'd be happy sharing a tree house with a monkey.

Thank fuck,
Phil and Kirsty

@"As for having countryside on our doorstep. Where do you live?"

Err, well it's just that I've got legs capable of more than a stroll down the corner shop. And if you've never bothered seeking out such places I'm not about to waste my time pointing them out. The surrounding hills can be seen from miles away, and there's plenty more besides. Sorry, but I really don't think the only green space left for miles around is situated in Mottram / Tintwistle.

Peter Johnson said...

Anonymous 19:59, there are more people and cars in the Borough. Greenspace has and continues to be destroyed, developed, reduced and denied access to. England as a whole is one of the most populous countries in the world and is 400% more densely populated than, for example, our nearest neighbour France. The 'there's plenty of space left' (in relative terms there most definitley ISN'T) attitude is music to the ears of thr greedy, selfish despoliers who are gradually ruining our country and Borough.
Some people can't get out to what's left of the countryside, and for everyone, urban open space directly relates to day to day quality of life which is why it is the most crucial and valuable of all.

Seems like the point is deliberately avoided.
9,000 total pop for Longendale
47,000 total pop for Audenshaw/Denton
350,000-400,000 vehicles arrive M67/M60/A57
60,000 travel through from Flouch to
Manchester (on a bad day)
Check out the TMBC Land distribution, open land, built up area`s
Audenshaw/Denton in the bottom 3,Longendale near the top.
The bulk of Mottram Moor traffic arives from Glossop because people choose to live there.
People in Audenshaw/Denton were infiltrated by the M67/M60.
Have you seen the pedestrian access to Denton from the Denton Golf course,if not its the worst in the region having to cross ONTO the M67/M60/A57 island and the various lights which get you off the island.Fancy that for a walk on the wild side.
Alternative for the elderly,
infirm, mothers with prams etc, climb up the steep incline onto the bridge from the Denton West side to walk the overhead bridge known as muggers alley because you cannot be seen crossing between the concrete sides.
A golf club with no access to its fields and land,so don`t tell me about the comparisons because I know the Longendale area well.
With a large dossier it could easily kill off the rhetoric about Hollingworth,Tintwhistle.
How many live in Tintwhistle ?
Try less than 2,000 and with open accessible moorland immediately behind homes the air is far less polluted for the few up there.
Point for point, fact for fact, reality for reality and 47,000
in Audenshaw/Denton get by far the worst deal than those stuck on Mottram Moor just slow moving.
And you want us to have ANOTHER 50,000 sent down a ByPass to acces the M67/M60
Your having a laugh, but were not laughing.
J.Hall

The majority of people of Denton and Audenshaw don't agree with Mr Hall. And it's disgraceful of Mr Hall and others on this blog to say they are ignorant. They understand the issues and don't agree with his views. I know a number who live in that area and think Mr. hall is an idiot. He does not engage in intellectual debate but insults anyone who questions his opinion.

At least he's got an opinion, usually backed up by facts and argument.
'They understand the issues', who's they, and how do you know who understands what in the increasingly dumbed down borough of Tameside.

You're having a laugh. If you knew the truth there is no fact. Never mind.

@Peter Johnson...

So you acknowledge that the country is densely populated but don't want the transport infrastructure to cope with it? I don't have any control over the population growth in the UK, which relates in large-part to the birth rates of recently-settled ethnic minorities. That is the doing of the governments and their supporters over the last several decades. If the British want an ever-increasing population (which they seem to) and don't want to spend half their lives stuck in traffic then the natural conclusion is to build more roads. I am not arguing for either side, I am simply pointing out facts - more people requires more homes and more roads. Simple.

Well done Mr Hall keep at em! said...

Peter Johnson said...

Anonymous 23:49, so you acknowledge there is a problem with the overloaded transport infrastructure but don't want to do anything about the cause, the immigration led population explosion. This is also the cause of the pressure on open space and access to it, particularly urban open space.
You do have some control over the population growth in the UK, you could join/support an anti-immigration organisation or party.
The solution therefore is to tackle immigration, if the solution was to keep building roads etc there would be a definable stopping point.

Anonymous said...

@Peter Johnson...

The problem there Mr Johnson is that the term 'when hell freezes over' springs to mind. In case you missed the news recently immigration is still running at record highs, despite the tough rhetoric we often hear from Conservatives. No 'anti-immigration' party is going to walk into Downing Street any time soon, certainly not in my lifetime.

Besides, population increases from recently settled groups will in itself send the population up by a large degree, and the odds of seeing them repatriated in the millions is even less.

So do forgive me, but I'm not about to dismiss realistic options such as building roads because of hopelessly unrealistic propositions regarding the control of population growth.

Peter Johnson said...

Anonymous 02:02, 'No anti-immigration party is going to walk into Downing St any time soon', let's hope everyone who wants Britain to survive doesn't take such a negative, defeatist attitude. Perhaps it's just your excuse for not doing anything, a very long winded way of saying you've given up and accepted the destruction of our country. I won't excuse you for that.

Anonymous, 'realistic' is a euphemism for giving up and going with the apparent flow. The alternative is trouble and difficulty on a large scale, which is what it will take to put things right.
It's a good job we weren't 'realistic' in 1940 after Dunkirk.

Never understood the interest in cars beyond owning one and learning to maintain it in order to facilitate continuing free and carefree travel.

Bicycles on the other hand are just my cup of tea, no taxes, no fuel, no insurance, no stopping at red lights, off roading it and endangering wildlife, the thrill of dodging buses and vans and chasing motorists who've almost ran you over while waving a large metal bike pump.

Cars just make load noises and make you think its safe to pick your noise in public, bah humbug!
