Will the special relationship continue?

It has long been believed the leader of the opposition on Tameside Council had a ’special’ relationship with Roy Oldham. It has been rumoured that in exchange for offering only token resistance to Labour, the leader of the opposition was promised he would one day be offered the position of lord mayor. With the sad passing of Roy Oldham we will now never know if such an arrangement did indeed exist.

Anyone who has ever attended an important election count could not fail to notice the genuinely warm greetings offered by the leader of the opposition to senior Labour figures. In a shocking incident during the Denton NE by-election the two leaders were heard discussing a well known Conservative blogger who often resides in Tameside. The comments made that night by the leader of the opposition regarding the blogger had many people asking themselves “whose side is this guy on”.

However, and as Bob Dylan famously sang, the times they are a-changing. Now with new and less refined characters in charge of the local Labour mafia, will the agreement - if it ever existed, still stand? Early noises from the mafia camp must be of concern to the leader of the opposition. It is said the Werneth ward is going to become a key target ward in future elections. Possible interesting times ahead!

While on the subject of wild rumours; word on the jungle drums is that Rob Adlard is likely to be the Conservative candidate in the forthcoming Longdendale by-election. Both Peter Hayes and Rob Adlard are high calibre individuals and whoever is selected I am sure they will give Labour a good thrashing at the polls - a thrashing which is long overdue!

John Bell used to be a door to door salesman, yet he doesn't like canvassing? He couldn't of been any good at his job. So now he is leading the Tories in Tameside with just 9 councillors. He gets roughly £45,000 as a councillor including deputising the local fire authority. It's true - we are run by a bunch of low life cretins.

Of course he had a special relationship with Roy Oldham, what do you take us all for. John Bell did very well out of Roy, thank you very much indeed, says John.
John Bell was bought and payed for!

Well done to Roy for having John Bell on the 'Labour Mafia' payroll, keeping Bell happy with regular handouts. Roy Oldham was crooked, but he was a political master of buying people and having them in his pockets.

HAIL ROY FOREVER!

John Bell was a sales rep, and it was a job he did on top of his council duties until he retired a few years ago. I don't see many of the Labour Group doing the same. Snug union jobs that accomodate their council duties are the order of the day. How many of the Labour lot DON'T get the perks of extra responsibility cash? How many jobs for the boys and girls were created in the change of leadership in May? Answer: We now have MORE Cabinet members and MORE Cabinet secretaries. The number of Labour councillors who take their seat at the front of the Council chamber is now almost as many of those sitting in the cheap seats.

Man-for-man the Tory Group is harder working than the Labour Group. Every single Tory has a skill, had career or a job in the REAL world, and still they put the work in on top of their day jobs.

Robbs stabbed Peter in the back the Tory infighting continues her Ladyship did try to get on the selection list, and to top all that UKIP officials seen entering council building with nomination papers today.
Labour teams out day and night and a huge launch planned for this week with a local celebrity.
Once again the Tameside Tory election machine comes out firing on one cylinder while the Labour one fires on all cylinders,I know who I blame for this.

Don't blame me if I get this one wrong, but the above post smells of John Taylor.

Yes, usual Labour garbage above.

The fact is Rob is Chairman of Longy Tories, and Peter cannot stand this time because of work commitments. It is all very simple, and Peter is out on the campaign trail with Rob. Peter is actively involved and will no doubt be standing again in the future.

Unlike the Labour ranks the Tories have day jobs, and sometimes no amount of wishful thinking can allow a Tory candidate to stand for council and do their day job at the same time.

Considering a significant number of the Labour ranks earn their pay from elected office/union work and can campaign as and when they please, obviously means they don't understand the concept of: a hard day's graft + political activism = REAL commitment and PROPER community action.

Spending a couple of hours a week in the council offices talking to staff between delivering leaflets does not constitute WORK.

As it stands the Tories have been all over Longy over the last eighteen months. Their hard work continues.

This type of guff surfaced during the last two by-elections and now it's here again. very one-dimensional mind the Labourites have. Is it true that the Labour candidate is really a Tory? Those W.I. types don't stand for any Labour rubbish! I would seriously check her credentials. The Tory team is getting some really good intelligence through.

Another Tory leaflet through the door today shows Peter Hayes is Rob Adlard's agent this time.

Rob did not stab Peter in the back,Rob let a better candidate take over he did make a bit of a mess of some leaflets last year and we don't want any problems because we can win this seat.
We know Labour will flood the ward with lots of party workers, we also have plenty of workers on the streets over the next few weeks

The grammar of some posters is appalling! If you are elected members of Tameside Council then you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Can Labour win fairly? said...

Will the Labour candidate be undertaking a fair campaign based on policy and truth? Or will she resort to the lies and deceit that have ruled Labour by-election campaigns in recent years?

We are prepared for such a campaign and will be publishing public critiques of your leaflets exposing these lies as and when they appear. Copies of our critique will also be sent to members of the local W.I. so that each member can be made aware of the depths that you may resort to.

Of course, if the campaign is a fair one then no such critiques will be needed...

Any 'stabbing in the back' accusations are probably more relevant to Labour's campaign. The man they stabbed in the back can no longer answer back.
Roy Oldham would be spinning (rather than just turning) in his grave if he saw how nicely his local party are speaking about him now he is gone. The same bunch that had just delivered the 'slap in the face' by backing Quinn as Leader.

Tameside Labour keep getting the results. At complete odds with the national Party's massacre at the general election (Margaret Hodge aside, and that result was as straight as a corkscrew). Perhaps they've got some secret method and should have told Gordon Brown.
