Hyde United FA Cup qualifier 06/10/09

It is great to see Hyde United living to fight another day. The financial situation is still dire but they are surviving – just! Tonight (Tuesday 6th Oct) they play Salford City in the 2nd round of the FA Cup. Why not show your support for this local institution by attending tonight’s match? I am going and I am quite excited at the prospect of watching a truly local team in action.

10 years ago I watched Manchester United win the treble. That night in Barcelona will stay with me for ever – as will the scar on my shin when I tripped over a ridiculously low street sign outside the Nou Camp, but that was 10 years ago. Manchester United was already more of a circus than a football club then, now they are something else – they have become extortion merchants too! Did you know season ticket holders are compelled to buy tickets for all cup matches in addition to the already astronomical price of the regular season ticket? This extortion of their loyal fans should be illegal – but that is digressing!

Details of where tonight’s match is being played:

I went to the game last night and was pleasantly surprised. The quality of football was far greater than I expected. In all honestly I think Hyde United played better than Man City when I last watched them. The Salford fans easily out sung the Hyde United fans. I would estimate the attendance was around 400. Pity about the late equalizer from Salford - let’s hope Hyde beat them in the replay.
