James Purnell - Minorities to get extra help

A new drive to ensure minority groups do not get 'left behind' during the recession has been announced. Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell said the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will work with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to make sure Labour does not repeat the mistakes of previous recessions. Mr Purnell made the promises in a speech to Labour's Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) annual general meeting in Leicester. He told the meeting: "In the past too many were left behind in bad times. Ethnic minority workers suffered most in the Tory recessions. Mr Purnell announced that he and EHRC chairman Trevor Phillips had agreed to work together to assess whether any groups were suffering disproportionately in the recession. He said they would assess the impact of unemployment on ethnic minorities, women, the disabled, older workers and other groups and added: "When we identify particular problems, we will know we need to adapt our policies to make sure that no one is left behind this time."Following his announcement, a spokesman for the Equality and Human Rights Commission said: "We know that fairness is a key value we all share, in good times and tough times. Manchester Evening News

I am sorry Mr Purnell but this type of initiative is totally wrong and utterly divisive. I wonder if Mr Purnell spoke of these plans with the electorate in Hyde Newton ? Does he not realise the resentment this will cause and does he not realise it is favouritism like this which aides groups such as the BNP? Tameside Citizen

Apologies to the people who made sensible and valid comments on the ‘Dinosaur’ article which has now been deleted. After returning from a weekend away I had no option but to delete the entire item because of the insane nature of many of the posts in the comments section. There is obviously a problem on this blog with stirrers impersonating legitimate posters. I would hate to think what ordinary members of the public think when looking in on the surreal world of the comments section of the Tameside Citizen blog. I suspect many think they have accidentally logged onto the comments section of the Tameside and Glossop Mental Health Directory website. I am adding comment moderation until further notice to try and filter out much of the insanity and personal attacks which is currently blighting the blog.

"BAME" Black Asian and minority ethnic.

I take it this means "No Whites"

SURELY THIS IS.......RACIST??

So if the Government can discriminate, so can the BNP.

This smacks of the "cohesion" and "preventing violent extremism" agendas.

Comment moderation on this site was fairly inevitable but some of them did give me a good laugh. As for Labour's latest 'Let's cause as much division as possible initiative', the more they plummet in the opinion polls the more detached from common sense, reality and public opinion they become. It must be nearly time for another Michael Foot style leader; Harriet Harman's class warfare, man hating and 12 years of utter political failure make her favourite in the 'let's commit political suicide' forthcoming leadership contest.

I look forward to the day when my Party stops all this so called equality nonsense,
Hazels made a good start with her PC statement, now we want a big hitter to start the process of removing the human rights act,we did not need it in the country.
I can not recall a single person who is not a criminal or terrorist benefiting from it.
European legislation will be used to oppose this my solution to that is do what Mr West should have done many years ago PULL OUT.

Hmmmm... is this in response to Keith Vaz's report on how well ministers support ethnic minority communities?

Everyone is suffering from a recession so everyone deserves to be treated fairly. All this will do is lead to increased racial tension.

Perhaps this is why we need an above inflation increase on dealing with community cohesion in the local budget?

WAG, why do you keep voicing support for policies, particularly on immigration, racial issues and crime that Labour is diametrically opposed to.

Anonymous said...

Labour are trying to keep ahead of the demographic curve and will increasingly become the Party of non-indigenous people.

Anonymous said...

Because my party allows me to have my own opinion.

Anonymous said...

Wag, yes but if you hold so MANY contrary opinions perhaps it's time to change Parties.

OK I will join the BNP or UKIP which one would you suggest.
Isn't it better on here without all the silly stuff from Mr West hes spoiled lots of blogs.

The law can only control what we do,not what we think.

That is a very bold statement from Mr Wag. I would suggest the BNP would be a far more suitable option for a traditional Labourite. UKIP have some good ideas but could not be described as socialist whereas the BNP are undoubtedly more socialist than Labour in its current manifestation.

Now I could have fun with this headline. "SHOCK AS LABOUR COUNCILLOR GOES INSANE" "BIGGEST NATIONALIST VICTORY SINCE FRANCE 1940" "THE GREAT DUKINFIELD BETRAYAL" "BNP FORCE LABOUR COUNCILLOR TO DEFECT"

Actually Mr Wag you can't put all the blame on me, with thousands of people visiting this blog and posting that's not fair.

Why would John want to leave a winning team? Makes no sense and is untrue.

There is a wave building out to sea. Perhaps in your myopic swagger you don’t yet discern it. It is swelling the ocean of unrest with a large and terrible rage - the rage of the English.

I’d keep a sharp eye on that bulge in the water if I were you. Soon she will deliver her progeny and you will find out whether all those rumours about the Anglo-Saxons are true.

Load your muskets. Gird your loins. Take in provisions. The English are coming and we may not be alone.

I am staying in The Labour party now I have been promised the leadership of the group.
I still want out of Europe and the human rights act removing.

UAF set up a Dukinfield branch .

Wag, I don't think you'd fit in the BNP as we actually believe in what we're doing and we hate big egos.

Anonymous said...

Ok I know when I am not wanted I will try UKIP.

If Harriet Harmen is the best person Labour can find for Prime Minister's Questions they are in serious trouble. Her performance yesterday against William Hague was an utter shambles.
