One for the number crunchers

Take a look at page 63 of this TMBC document and see what you make of the figures relating to projected expenditure on cohesion initiatives. There is a huge percentage increase planned for 2011. Do TMBC council know something we do not?

This increase is not to support cohesion it is to try and stop the spread of division largely caused by the separatism demanded by the Islamic community.

It's like a stranger going into someone's house and rearranging all the furniture to suit them. When the householder complains the intruder says, 'Well I'm planning to buy this house in a few years anyway whether you like it or not'.
The householder then has two choices, capitulate or throw them out on their ear.

Just what has TMBC got up its sleeves? Are they expecting a sudden rise in hate related crimes? I thought TMBC's own crime stats showed they were on the way down.

2009/2010 - £91,000
2010/2011 - £140,000

This is an increase of 58.3%

Pam Williams needs to sort out her budget. Such above inflation increases can not be tollerated.

I don't wish to pick on this particular point, as many will now call me racist, but I am sure there are plenty other instances of this gross misspend.

And it gets better...or worse...depending on your view point. Area Based Grant for Tameside, allocated to "Preventing Violent Extremism" will rise 19% from £105,000 this fiscal year to £125,000 next year (2009 - 2010)

Also the GOVERNMENT (NB NOT The Labour Party) is allocating cash to fight "Right Wing extremism" while admiting that the main threat is from ISLAMIC extremists,

QUOTE
Why is the Government singling out Muslim communities?
The security services have been clear about the nature of the terrorist threat. The most significant threat to Britain’s security comes from Islamist terrorism. The Government’s aim is to prevent extremism by building communities that feel themselves to be part of British society – not wait for problems to emerge.

It is important that we recognise the threat of Islamist extremism and work with Muslim communities to build their resilience to extremist messages.

Nationally, the number of individuals and organisations willing to engage with this work clearly illustrates that Muslim communities recognise there is a problem. They are committed to working with the Government to tackle it.

What is the Government doing about other forms of extremism, such as far right extremism?
The far-right is not, and cannot be, part of any solution to community problems. The police and, where necessary, the security services, are assiduous in monitoring closely and evaluating the words and actions of individuals and organisations preaching inflammatory messages, whoever they might be, and take action where appropriate.

The Government is working closely with local authorities and local councillors to tackle the threat from the far right. We contributed to the development of the CRE Safe Communities Initiative toolkit ‘Defeating organised racial hatred’.

We have supported conflict resolution training in areas most vulnerable to far-right activity, as well as training for councils on developing cohesion in local areas. We have also supported various local initiatives to bring communities together and tackle hate crime.

The rise of extremism is a wake-up call to all of us to work harder at challenging racism, inaccuracies and misrepresentation.
