Shockingly biased article on the Newton by-election from Adam Derbyshire

Labour tightened their grip on Hyde Newton crushing fears the far-right BNP would secure a seat in the town hall. Phillip Fitzpatrick triumphed in the bitterly-fought by-election which was triggered by the death of Councillor Margaret Oldham. Despite a slightly lower turnout than last May, Labour increased their majority from 278 to 450 by scooping 1,379 votes. BNP candidate Rosalind Gauci limped home in second place with 889 votes, leaving Tory hopeful John Welsh in third with 485. Cheers rang out as deputy returning officer Sandra Stewart announced the result at Dukinfield town hall on the stroke of midnight. But boos and cries of “shame” echoed around the hall as Ms Gauci used her closing speech to claim Labour had used dirty tricks to secure victory. She said: “We fought a clean campaign. Labour intimidated people to vote for anyone but the BNP.” Sensing a shock victory, BNP leader Nick Griffin joined his cohorts on the election trail during the day. But they were soundly beaten with Stalybridge and Hyde MP James Purnell branding Ms Gauci a ‘bad loser’. He said: “It’s a victory for the people. It sends out a message that people prefer hope and solidarity rather than those who bring hatred and division. “The BNP will be bitterly disapppointed. Their leader visited twice, which ultimately only served to increase Labour’s majority. “It was a churlish speech from the BNP candidate. It is the tradition to be decent and respectful until the end, but she showed herself to be a bad loser.” Councillor Fitzpatrick said: “The BNP obviously felt they had a little bit of a chance. It amazes me that people are voting for them. It beggars belief. “They seem to have hoodwinked a few people. One of my first jobs is to go out and find out why. “It’s an honour for me to take Margaret Oldham’s seat. While I was canvassing people spoke so highly of her. But I’ll do my best to replace her. “I’m a local lad and I’ll look after them.” A Labour source added: “This is a personal smack in the face for Nick Griffin. He believed he was on course for victory. “But the people of Newton have shown they have chosen hope over hate by voting in Phillip Fitzpatrick.” Tameside Advertiser

This is arguably the worst propaganda article ever published in a Tameside newspaper. It is not even clever propaganda, there is so many things I could say about this but I will leave it up to the combatants involved to give their opinions. I have not seen the hard copy of the paper yet but I guarantee if they have managed to get a bad or unflattering photograph of Rosalind Gauci or the BNP contingent they will place it prominently alongside this article. In an era of politicized media the Labourtiser has plumbed new depths. Messrs Porter and Derbyshire are just Labour's 'boys' and a disgrace to a profession whose duty is to uphold the highest standards of impartiality.
The shouting and abuse came from Labour yobs not the BNP.
The BNP increased their vote in a campaign dominated by Labour's dirty tricks, use of the Press, the Church and extremist third parties distributing 27500 smear leaflets. This type of interference in the electoral process was illegal until eight years ago. None of this is mentioned in Labour's free rag, nor is the collapse in the Tory and LibDem vote which directly accounted for the increase in Labour's vote.
The Advertiser will never print anything positive about the BNP as they just follow the National Union of Journalists official advice to always print and highlight potentially negative BNP stories and never print positive ones.
If the media becomes any more tame it will be a REAL threat to the future of democracy in this country.

Charles I was legally executed. A few years before to mention such a thing would have been high treason. Things can change so the powers that be should never be too complacent.

Superb article Adam not very happy about the photo of the Fascist woman but you have always been impartial, sometimes the truth hurts.

I would like to thank our press monitoring unit at Tameside MBC for doing a fantastic job, specifically Stephen Plesant - our new chief exec, Adam Derbyshire at the Advertiser and Darrel Beck who heads up our PR.

Labour-you cheated,deal with it!

Comments from Labour supporters on this site virtually always consist of childish invective. This is what people resort to when they have run out of arguments.

If Adam Derbyshire's impartial why didn't he mention that the Tory and LibDem vote collapsed and why did he say the BNP limped home when our vote increased despite 27500 smear leaflets being put out.

The Dutch MP Geert Wilders, shamefully banned from the UK today for daring to criticize almighty Islam, called Gordon Brown ' The biggest coward in Europe'. Never was a truer word spoken. If the economy keeps nosediving he'll HAVE to call an election before the end of the year.

Geert is a scumbag and got what he deserved,we have enough of his sort in here already.

Plenty of scumbags in the UAF

Can you explain why Mr Wilders is a 'scumbag'? His film, Fitna criticizes Islam, what's wrong with that? It's called freedom of speech and we fought two World Wars to uphold it.

Having just watched Fitna I can understand why the treacherous Labour government acted so swiftly in deporting Mr Wilders from Britain. This short film is a must see for anyone still under the delusional impression that Islam is a religion of peace of and tolerance. I am considering embedding Fitna on this blog for all to see. Please vote on the poll to give me an idea if this is a good idea.

Ridiculous to say Adam Derbyshire and the Advertiser are biased. Typical BNP paranoia.
He and the paper has done several exposes on the council, Roy Oldham's chauffeur driven BMW bein one.
Only last week he wrote a front page exposing Lord Pendry's free trip to Wimbledon from a tobacco company. Hardly a Labour love in.

Fitna is a powerful piece of propaganda. I disagree with almost all of this film. The quotes are taken out of context with sentences spliced together poorly, You can get the same effect with the Bible or any other religious text. The saying was you can use the Bible to prove anything.
Just look at the many varying branches of Christianity, they all interpret the Bible in many different ways. The problem is not the Koran or Muslims, the problem is extremists. Most religions have had at some point radicals who have caused death to thousands or millions. Just look at Gaza.
I have no problem with Islam as a religion, as most of its adherents are peaceful and law-abiding. If they live in this country they should have exactly the same rights to worship in their own way.
My problem is with extremists. Muslim,IRA,INLA,Animal rights, Green Eco loons and many more to numerous to mention. These are not Terrorists, They are lawbreakers that belong in Gaol for a very long time.
I find the hatred of somebodies religion and beliefs to be a worse crime than hatred of their colour.
Geert Wilders is a horrible racist media pimp. He however has his point of view, and I agree with Lord Pearson and Gerard Batten MEP that his view should be heard and then firmly rebutted.
If any moderate Muslims would like to rip this pointless piece of bile apart, I would like a front row seat.
I voted yes.

Ukip, your lack of understanding of Islam in comparison to other cultures is an extremely dangerous delusion. Islam has spent the last thirteen centuries aggressively expanding. Europe is their latest target and weak chronically overtolerant Government's like ours are ideal territory for Muslims to pursue their policies of massive outbreeding of the host combined with increasing coercion, such as Lord Ahmed's threat to mobilise ten thousand Muslims if Wilders was allowed to attend to screen his film. The Islamic population of Britain multiplied ten times faster than any other group between 2004 and 2008. Only the very naive or those with no knowledge of the history of this parasitic culture believe this is accidental. Now we are going to have legalised animal cruelty despite the EU declaring that Halal slaughter inflicts totally unnecessary suffering on animals because our Government has asked for an exemption due to fear of a Muslim backlash.
I have long experience of working in Islamic areas and the vast majority of Muslims have little or no loyalty to this country. The 'it's just a few extremists' argument is false justification for doing nothing, the reality is this absence of action is appeasement based on fear.

Comparing Islam to other NON-aggressive religions is like comparing Nazism to moderate democracy. Get real.

If the Advertiser aren't biased against the BNP why did the Editor write to Private Eye and say that he was. Get your facts straight.

Anonymous said...

Towton, you use the religion of Islam as a proxy for your hatred of different colours. Can anybody who is not aryan join your party? how many Muslims are members?
Your paranoia shines through.

I have sent TC a collection of quotes from Adam Derbyshire regarding the BNP. I have asked him to post them unaltered as if straight from the pen of Mr Derbyshire and then let the debates begin.

The BNP throwing a tantrum over supposed 'bias', ha whatever next!

Well done Advertiser, true to their Guardian credentials.

“... The word of Jesus should be put back into our schools, a revival of all things English....”

Wasn’t Jesus a Jew from the Roman province of Judea? England didn’t even exist 2,000 years ago. The Celtic tribes here were also subjugated by the Romans in their province of Britannia. The Angles then lived in what is today part of Denmark, Germany and Holland, before their wave of immigration which came (along with the Saxons, Danes, Jutes and Vikings) after the Romans left 500 years later. Of course, 1,500 years after the Angles came over as unwelcome guests, we are now have laws in place to stop some modern unwelcome Dutch guests at Heathrow!!

Great news! Liam Billington is moving back to Leeds according to his Facebook status. Stamford Park will be a quieter place without him. Although I am sure he will be pleased he can visit all the strip clubs and brothels available in the City Centre.

Anonymous, Islam consists of many different races; there are 400,000 Muslims in Texas, the vast majority of whom are white. It's the culture I don't like not the colours. You are choosing to accuse me of 'racism' because you don't want to confront Britain's colonization by Islam which affects ALL races.
The BNP's stated aim is to protect the safety, survival and rights of the indigenous population, by far the biggest threat to that is Islam. Check the demographics or go to inner city Birmingham or London if you WANT the truth. Better still, speak to non-Islamic British Indians, they have a better understanding of the threat posed by Muslims than anyone.
I'm not paranoid but I can think for myself which is a lot more difficult than just going with the 'tolerant' multicuctural flow.

I don't trust ANYONE who starts speaking a different language when I appear. This Government has pimped itself for the (mostly postal, i.e. corrupt) Muslim block vote which is totally counter to Britain's interests. P.S. My wife's Antiguan so don't bother playing the race card.

Wilders' 'crime' was to point out the threat posed by Islam because of which he needs 24 hour Police protection. Theo Van Gogh did the same and was murdered for it. There is now a powerful anti-Islamic backlash in the Netherlands based on survival instinct. Britain needs brave politicians like Geert Wilders who are prepared to tell the truth.

Those of us who know Liam know the real reason why he's heading back to Leeds, and it's not for any of the reasons that some contributors to this forum have mentioned.

The one thing about which there can never be any doubt is that Liam has consistently been proven right about the true nature of the Labour-run administration in Tameside.

Anonymous, I don't think for one minute Liam will stop taking an interest in the political shenanigans in the borough. LB might be moving to Leeds, but I personally consider any thought of him not retaining any interest in Tameside politics would be akin to
thinking the unthinkable.

From my perspective, I have always held the opinion that Liam knew what he was doing with regard to politics. I appreciate some openly question his methods and some will disagree with the way he goes about making people account for their actions, but what you cannot deny is that he was, and remains determined to force the truth about the borough's socialist leadership into the public domain.
