Attack shame of councillor’s son

The son of a councillor is among six thugs guilty of a vicious street fight in Ashton town centre. Andrew Piddington, whose mother is Councillor Catherine Piddington, was part of a "terrifying mob attack" caught on CCTV at 5am in Old Cross Street, when a teenager was kicked to the floor and stamped on. The full article can be read on the Tameside Advertiser website and can be found by clicking here.
Sadly this kind of thuggish behaviour is no longer a rare occurrence. I am sure this will be a huge embarrassment for Cllr Piddington as well as a personal tragedy. Tameside Citizen

Why didn't Lynn Travis give a character reference like Whitley and his mum did? She knows better not to do so.

Is it really ethical that a councillor drags herself in to provide a character reference when her son clearly commited the crime? She and Whitley were obviously trying to intervene on the judges decision to try and get a reduced sentence. Disgraceful and highly contemptuous.

I feel for Cath here at the end of the day it's her son what ever you feel about her party is irelevant what her son did was deplorable and the sentance wasn't long enough but this is a private issue.
You can't judge her for what her son did.

I must honestly say that I have never been happy with the "Guilt by Association" argument.

The actions of adult relatives / offspring are not your responcibility.

I'll bet that if some councillor's son saved a couple of kids or OAPs from a blazing house then those who condemn Cllr Piddington would not let this hypothetical councillor take credit for their offspring's brave act!

We are not responcible for the actions of our adult relatives.

The victim could just as well have been killed therefore they should have been charged with attempted murder which is no different than murder, it's just circumstances that change the outcome particularly when you jump two-footed onto someone's head when they are lying on the ground. 20 months(they'll serve ten months maximum) is utterly pathetic. In my view they have forfeited the right to live and should be executed.

Roy Walker and David. OK "guilty by association" isn't nice at all, but this isn't a private matter. Cllr. Piddington made a public character statement in defence of her son - just like any loving mother would. However, she dragged in another councillor in order to use their positions as councillors to back up their statements. It is clear what Andrew Piddington did which is utterly disgusting and as a councillor she should lead by example and not try to soften sentencing. It reminds me of Andrew Mercer's mum who lied to the police in order to keep her son out of prison. 20 months isn't long enough. It should of been at least 5 years.

West. Your actions have made your colleagues look stupid. You have dragged everybody down with you. You sat in that court and listened to two prosecution witnesses tell lies and then you pleaded guilty without even bothering to put your side of the argument forward. I can only assume that you are mentally ill. As you know, Mrs Holt wasn't even present when the argument broke out - she committed perjury by saying that she witnessed the altercation. All you had to do was explain to the court that she wasn't even home when your neighbour confronted you. Perjury is a far more serious crime than anything you are supposed to have done, and yet you let her get away with it scott free while you convicted yourself. In all seriousness your actions were those of someone in need of a psychiatrist.
What made it all the worse was that you had nothing to lose by testifying and leaving the decision up to the judge. A fine was all the judge could hand out - SO WHY THROW THE TOWEL IN HALFWAY THROUGH. Also, you pleaded guilty to: "Racially Aggravated Harassment." But why? Firstly, your neighbours are white, like you, so how could you be guilty of racially abusing them? Secondly, you did not harass your neighbours, you were responding to their hostilty. If anyone was guilty of harassment they were. Your career in politics is now over.

Great post by Ex- Roy West Supporter. Roy's actions in admitting to a crime he did not commit and therefore was not guilty of beggars belief. Roy you silly git - you have gifted Taylor & Co a present they couldn’t have dreamed of. I know you are a decent if somewhat opinionated individual, but you care about the people of Duki and of the country as a whole, you deserve a chance at representing your community but you will have a hard slog ahead of you following your conviction.

Violent Crime, you are correct about Britain's soaring crime rate particularly in relation to the USA where they have ten times as many people per head in prison. On average they are also serving much longer sentences. It has been proven in every large-scale study that prison works more effectively than any other method of crime reduction. The key is long mandatory sentencing. With all types of offence included the average sentence has to be at least61 months to achieve the desired effect.

I know two wrongs don't make a right, but if the victim was one of our local thugs, a certain 'jon bonny'(third generation to not have had a job)
he used to live in my street and was brought home in the back of a police van at least twice in the six months he lived there.I used to feel sorry for his Mother, but then I found out that she had never worked a day in her life either.
Why would any one get out of a taxi to square up to six youths, unless they considered themselves as a bit of a hardman.
I know he has dished out beatings before, but has never been caught. this time he met his match and suffered the consequences.
Ho Hum, if it's not the same lad I take it all back and apologise unreservedly.

A nasty and brutal attack by a group of responsible adults who quite frankly are big enough and old enough to know that what they were doing was wrong.

The person I really feel for is the victim, who has not only suffered the injuries and the pain that goes along with them, but has now been left without employment thanks to the violent and cowardly actions of Piddington junior and his friends.

I agree with the contributors who have said that the 20-month sentence is grossly inadequate. 5 years would have served as a deterrent to others not to go around wilfully beating innocent members of the public.

Taylor's got two 'Anti-Nazi' groups coming to Tameside. The local Labour group will try anything to cling on to power, when you've abandoned your principles there is only status or position left.
Labour's policies come from and belong to a different era, the game's up and they know it. All that's left is to throw as much mud as possible at whoever threatens their 'rightful' seats at the top table. If this includes grovelling to block voting 'communities' then so be it. The fact that such fawning is extremely detrimental to Britain's interests is irrelevant to a Party that has utterly ceased to represent or care about the British working class.

Anonymous said...

Honestly what has become of the Conservative party in Tameside? Have they got any real leadership these days?

The Tory party are well past that golden age they once occupied. No leadership at national level or local level. Their members don't know what they stand for anymore.

Upsides of executing people like this-
1.They can never commit another crime.
2.They are seen to be punished properly, i.e. Due to their behaviour they have forfeited all rights including the right to live.
3.They deserve it.
4. Execution of such offenders acts as a strong deterrent to others.
5. It saves the taxpayer a fortune.
Downsides-
None.

Richard, it is foolish of a poilitical party not to embrace online media. CCHQ have a massive online team which may not be picking up much momentum at the moment - as with all political parties, but this will rapidly speed up in the next general election. Look what it did for Barack Obama.

You could jump over the Advertiser and Reporter if you so wanted to. People do look for an alternative. Believe me, I was getting 4,000 unique visitors to my Tameside Eye blog each month. May not sound much, but according to the rate card on the Advertiser, they get 16,000. Not bad considering I had no backing of a paper to publish.

There is no decent editorial on the Tameside Tories website. All it is is the Bell/Ashton press release repository which bores potential readers. I thought you made the right step in enabling comments, but they were quickly disabled.

Your ignorance will cost you dearly. You either rub up nicely to the blogs or you will face utter annihilation like Labour have locally and nationally.

I also look forward to the alternative budget, considering it hasn't been anything presented to local members.

Samuel Roy Oldham said...

I have told John to remove his blog. It was embarassing for the party.

We are thinking of replacing him with Richard Ashton. He is good at writing letters to the press.

Anonymous said...

Conservative Values, it does indeed require hard graft on the streets, that coupled with good press and web exposure does wonders for political fortunes.

Whilst the Newton situation was far from ideal for those of us who support the Conservative Party, I think last years' results were very good. Cllrs Ambler, Baines and Dickinson re-elected, Cllr Ambler with a whopping great majority to prove the the point he's a first rate councillor. Additionally, the fact that Cllr Cartwright and Cllr Patrick were elected in wards which some would have considered unwinnable surely says something for the way the party is moving forward in the borough. Those victories and Dr Buckley pushing Labour to the very brink of losing in St Michaels are proof that anything is possible with sheer hard graft.

I look forward to the 2010 locals with great enthusiasm, let's hope the hard graft being put in by local Conservative activists translates into a bigger stick for JB to whack Labour with.

Muslim drug dealers in Britain have been specifically told to target only non-Muslims with their wares as part of a chemical holy war against this country, a daily newspaper has claimed.

In an article headed “Asian terror gangs target UK with killer heroin” the Daily Star newspaper claimed that “terror chiefs plan to flood our streets with heroin in a terrifying plot to wage ‘chemical jihad’ on Britain. And they have been using hate-filled Muslim gangs as their UK dealers,” said the newspaper.

Claiming that the drug is freely available “on Britain’s streets, often in the backs of cabs or over kebab shop counters,” the paper goes on to say that “Asian gangs are operating in South London, Luton, Preston, Manchester, Leeds, Oldham, Birmingham and Bradford

National Survival, you are correct, Islam is the true threat to our nation's continued existence. It is being aided and abetted by the nation hating EU but the worst collaborators are NewLabour who, after 18 years out of power and near destruction developed a policy of promising ANYTHING to groups who would vote for them. The Muslim block vote has swung a large number of seats to Labour and to make this 'deal' even more secure postal voting has been massively expanded- we wouldn't want Muslim women disappearing into that polling booth and actually expressing their OWN opinions now would we.
The word for all this dealing with the enemy within is treason. If the old punishment for this heinous offence is re-introduced a lot of people now riding the gravy train may find themselves receiving the ultimate punishment.
