Tributes have been paid to Councillor Margaret Oldham who has died after a long illness. Councillor Oldham, who served Hyde Newton ward, is thought to have been battling aplastic anaemia - a rare blood disorder - for around 18 months. Despite undergoing treatment, she was rushed into hospital this weekend and died at the age of 69. Councillor Peter Robinson, who worked alongside her in Hyde Newton, said: “It’s a very, very sad loss. “I’ve been taking Margaret for treatment over the last 18 months and I will miss her a tremendous amount, she had a lot of friends on the council. “She was very determined - she would get an idea in her head and follow it through - and she wanted to make sure that everyone had an equal chance. “I don’t think there’s anywhere in Newton that you can’t see a change since she became a councillor. “We worked tremendously closely and she will be a very hard act to follow for whoever succeeds her in the future. I will miss her enormously.” Councillor Oldham, who had one son, was a former industrial chemist who joined her husband on the council in 1995.As cabinet deputy for co-ordination services, her responsibilities included community safety and she played a large part in the setting up of Tameside Patrollers and neighbourhood policing schemes.Leader of the opposition, Conservative Councillor John Bell, also paid tribute to an ‘exemplary’ colleague. “Her contribution to the borough while she has been a councillor has been exemplary” he said.“She worked very hard and we are all going to miss her. We didn’t always agree but we never bore a grudge towards one another and I always saw Margaret as a strong, political opponent.“It’s a sad loss and our thoughts are with her husband and family.”

Condolences to her husband, Cllr Roy Oldham, and also to her family and friends.
Anon who speaks with forked tongue, save your weasel words and do not think you can use this blog and the sad death of Mrs Oldham to make cheap political points.
As already been stated condolences to her husband Roy, her family and friends.
No one deserves to suffer as she did and may she be at rest.

Pity your pal, Tameside Mafia, couldn't be so respectful.
I am sorry, but whilst she was ill she hardly turned up to any council meetings and yet claimed her full allowance as a councillor along with all the other internal and external boards she was roughly £35k.
As someone who is struggling to pay his council tax along with all the other increases to tax and utility bills, she or Roy doesn't get any sympathy from me.
re: this is sick
Liam has never been known for his ability to control himself, particularly if he thinks he can hide behind an alias.
Why is comment moderation switched on? Is it because of Roy West?
Let me know of any Mafia group being beaten Roy,bet your vote goes down next time.
Our information sources have confirmed that we have two main bnp groups in the area the Jones faction the ones who helped in the huge split we saw this year and who some are still under threat of expulsion from the party, and the Byrne faction who stayed loyal to the leadership there is clear tension between these two groups Jones and Byrne are just about on Christmas card terms,or are they we will find out in the next few weeks.
You don't see them together much these days and we already know that David is almost beside himself with the antics of a certain member in Dukinfield, we sympathise with him even David does not deserve this.
This blog has become boring with comment moderation. Tameside Citizenzzzzzzzz more like. Turn it off TC or are you frightened Roy West will show up your BNP blog or perhaps somone knows who you are. This blog has been shit from the start all you do is copy and paste stuff from GMP or the MEN. Write your own articles, but when you do they are full of shit!
Latest up date news on the BNP campaign in Dukinfield.
2,000 bnp leafets racism cuts both ways are to be delivered in the next two weeks.
To late Westy the death threats your party members made have killed you off and the latest leaflet is so damaging to you its all over.
Spend your money on the house, get the wife and kids a decent Christmas present, and get a good holiday fly off home to Greece get some sun on your back instead of Taylor and co.
You made a valiant try but have you ever asked yourself why did the party leave you on your own the Greens had three people working the ward and they were bigger tossers than you and your lot.
There comes a time when you have to deal with reality that time is now Roy take a look at your opponents tell me if they look or act stressed out.
Take note and take care and stop wasting your money have merry Christmas with your family.
There is a sickening lack of respect being shown here following the death of Mrs Oldham.
I'd like to offer my sympathy and condolences to Cllr Roy Oldham and Cllr Mrs. Oldham's family and friends for their sad loss.
May Cllr Mrs. Oldham rest in peace.
