"No redundencies"

Erm... Tameside Enterprises Limited and soon to be Point2Point.

These are all arms length companies which gives the council an excuse to flog off staff willy nilly whilst councillors who are funnily enough are directors or overview these companies go around pissing money up the wall as it doesn't come under the same strict audit standards of the council. Oh then again...

TC

I have heard a rumour from serving Councillors that Cllr John Taylor(Dukinfield) was convicted around 1982 for turning back the mileage on a series of cars.

Can you confirm or deny these rumours?

Let's take a look at the facts:

1982:
TMBC budget - £80m
Leader's remuneration - £364

2008:
TMBC budget - £324m
Leader's remuneration - £44,831 (basic plus special allowance)

Now if my calculations are correct TMBC's budget and leader's remuneration have increased as follows:

TMBC budget - 405%
Leader's remuneration - 12,316%

If Tameside's budget had increased in line with the Leader's remuneration during this period then the annual budget for the borough would currently be approximately £985,280,000,000.

Such a figure would place Tameside eighth on the list of the world's GDPs - ahead of Spain and just behind Italy.

Yet the rate of inflation has only gone up by 164% since 1982.

So if the budget had gone up according to inflation, we should be spending £211,200,000.

So the council has spent £112,800,000 more than the rate of inflation.

Complete bananas!

And if Roy Oldham's salary was to go at the rate of inflation then he would only be on £960.96.
