Detectives in Tameside are appealing for information after a 20-year-old man was found with serious head injuries after a night out in Stalybridge. At about 1am in the early hours of Sunday 29 July 2007, the 20-year-old was walking home from Stalybridge along a pathway that runs between Queens Road and Palace Road in Ashton-under-Lyne when he was hit on the forehead by an unknown offender. He fell to the ground and was found about half an hour later by a group of young people who were passing by. The 20-year-old was unconscious when he was discovered and had a 4-inch gash on his forehead. The group called an ambulance and the victim was taken to Tameside General Hospital but has since been transferred to Hope Hospital where he has undergone an operation for serious head injuries. His current condition is described as comfortable. Detective Sergeant Matt Findell from Tameside CID said: "At the moment this young man is in hospital suffering from some very serious injuries and we need to know what happened to him. We have a number of lines of inquiry that we are looking into but are also appealing to any members of the public that were in the area at the time, or who saw a man being attacked, to contact us and let us know."
Anybody with any information about this incident is asked to contact Tameside CID on 0161 856 2295 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
