Is Roy Oldham going to step down as leader of Tameside Council?

Tameside Citizen keeps hearing rumours suggesting that council leader; Roy Oldham is due to step down as council leader and take up a highly paid role at Manchester Airport. Is there any truth in this? Previous high profile Gtr Manchester Labourites have been given plum jobs at the golden goose known as Manchester Airport, which suggests to me there could be some truth in it. Any information on this would be appreciated.

On a personal level, I must say I have a fair amount of respect for Roy Oldham. I despise the political party he represents; the genuine betrayers of the working class, but as an individual, it must be said that Roy Oldham comes across as a decent individual who is more of a traditional old Labour type of campaigner. He deserves praise for his leadership of Tameside Council which as we know is a good and well run council. When Tameside is compared to dreadful councils such as Oldham, Rochdale and the most rotten of the lot – Manchester, we have to remember that Tameside’s good showing is largely due to the efforts of Roy Oldham.

Hmmm, well, in a way I can agree with you CITIZEN. Compared with Oldham M.B.C. Tameside is better. The Manchester Regt Museum would never be allowed in some of the more PC councils and Cllr Oldham's denouncing in council of anti-social behaviour, crime etc strikes a chord with me. (Does any one else remember his speech against lawyers a couple of years ago? Pure brilliance!)

One point though CITIZEN. IF he is retiring, who is his successor?

Bets? I'll have a tenner on Cllr Keiran Quinn.

Sean Parker Perry surely would be the obvious choice?

If Roy Oldham does go to Manchester Airport then there's every possibility that his wife may go with him. That would leave 2 by-elections in Longendale and Hyde Newton. The BNP are widely predicted to make their breakthrough in Newton. As for Oldham's successor, my friend in the local Labour Party tells me it could be Cllr Quinn.

Dr Dolittle says - John Taylor could be in with a shout, he has been a councillor for 24 years and is well thought of in Dukinfield.

i think parker perry would make a good leader. he was going to be lord mayor and he is the grandson of lord tom pendry which must account for something.

You don't happen to have comments from the IP address 83.104.50.161 do you?

Sean Parker-Perry as council leader? Don't make me laugh. The man is a crook and a complete shower of shit.

He has only got where he is through his links with his father in law.

I heard a rumor that he was fired from TP Express as a train conductor over the allegations of theft. He then got hitched with Fiona Pendry (Tom Pendry's daughter) and quickly became a political operative for James Purnell.

I have a news story for you, email me bypassedwarrior@gmail.com

So I kick the shit out of Fiona so what. I am untouchable don't you know.
