Bring back the birch!

YOUNG vandals ran riot in a Tameside Park despite the constant pleas from the council’s hard working gardeners as they prepared for the national Britain in Bloom contest.Dozens of flowers were ripped from beds late last Thursday and strewn all over the pathways at Dukinfield Park. This week Dukinfield Councillor John Taylor spoke out against the vandals.“We have been free of this sort of issue for some time and have just suffered from minor stuff,” he said.“But we are aware of some different groups of young people now using the park.“Our youth worker, police and patrollers have been there in big numbers but can’t be there all the time.“The last time we had this problem we did put extra security in the park and some people complained, because people did not like their presence, but we may have to do this again.”The vandalism comes just weeks after Ron Cheadle, GMB Trade Union, wrote to the Reporter on behalf of Tameside Council’s gardening team.“The workforce put their heart and souls into creating stunning flower displays only to see them constantly vandalised by local children and young thugs,” he stated. The park staff had just planted hundreds of new flowers despite all the bad weather.“The gardeners are often forced to replant the same beds over and over again using more plants the cost of which is passed on to all the local Council Tax payers.” added Mr Cheadle. He said: “We would ask all parents in the areas do you know where your children are and what they are doing?” Anyone with information about the vandalism at Dukinfield Park is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

we should make our streets safe-a policy of zero tolerance not just words but action.

Iwould like to challenge cllr Taylor to an open and frank bebate about the problem facing us with yob-culture violence in our area of Dukinfield. Something must be done to make our streets safe.

The police and politicians are all talk and no action. look at the facts.

IT TOOK THE POLICE UP TO 3 TO 4 DAYS TO COME TO MY HOUSE AFTER YOBS HAD SMASHED MY WINDOWS, YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE I PERSONALLY HAVE IN THE POLICE.

The facts speak for themselves. Before WW11 we were much poorer than we are now and yet there was far less crime. Why? The reason is obvious! In those days people feared the consequence of their actions, whether that be the birch, the death penalty etc. The point is that people knew that the law would be enforced and that the law was harsh.

i would also suggest ncb1970...though I agree with you...we were also more, whats the phrase, "Socially cohesive"

Or, "Less enriched"

The extremely leniant criminal justice system is an important factor in the increase in crime. Where is the deterrent these days? Perhaps Cllr Taylor could tell us?

Labour Mayor for Westhoughton, Nicholas Green was jailed for 10 years for 3 rapes including a bride on her wedding day and 13 counts of indecent assault against little girls between six and ten. Would you like to make a comment Mr Taylor. Or will you put your fingers in your ears.

Mr Blobby: Talks to Roy West.
Mr Blobby: "We know all about the terrible violence that you are your family had to endure. Mr West, can you tell us about the support that your family received during the time of this violence.
Mr West: "We feel very disappointed about the whole affair, having to hide in our own home that was our reality."
Mr Blobby: Yes, but the police caught those attacking your house.?
Mr West: "Yes, they did but there is more to this situation than just catching the thugs that smashed my windows."
Mr Blobby: Did the police do their job.?
Mr West: "If this was the case then why did we suffer being the victims of crime 40 times, having our windows smashed 14 times. It took the police upto 4 to 5 days to attend windows smashing incidents at our home."
Mr Blobby: I believe that you were assaulted by these same thugs that attacked your house.?
Mr West: Yes, members of my family were also assaulted in the street.
Mr Blobby: What would you say to people thinking of coming forward to give evidence against yobs in their area.?
Mr West: "Be very careful regarding any action you take, the police are very slow to act against so-called level street crime."
Mr Blobby: Thank you Mr West.
Mr West: ok.
