A day out at Old Trafford
I was for many years a season ticket holder at Manchester United. I used to follow the Reds home and away and in particular I used to enjoy the European away games. However following the success Fergie brought the club from 1993 onwards, corporate greed took hold and Manchester United become a business first and a football club second.
Even before the outrageous acquisition of the club by the Glaziers I was becoming disillusioned at the way corporate interests and pure greed were the norm at OT so I decided I had enough and stopped going. That was then, it is ironic that now free corporate tickets are offered to me on a fairly frequent basis and I have a child who is constantly on my case to go so today we went and watched United v Liverpool.
What a circus the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ has become. I took this short video of the fanfare introduction and Ryan Giggs scoring a penalty. The passion and emotion of a big game against bitter rivals like Liverpool certainly brings out the tribal instinct in you but I believe for pure value for money and enjoyment of the game you can do better than joining the multitudes at OT or City’s council house at Eastlands and instead support a local club like Stalybridge Celtic or Hyde United.
Tomorrow night (10/01/2011) there is a local derby in Tameside featuring Hyde United v Droylsden - 7.45 kick-off. For more info take a look at the website of Hyde United. The match is to be held at the home ground of Droylsden which is: The Butchers Arms Ground
Market Street

Too many foreigners has destroyed the British essence of the game. At least UTD regularly play four or five English or British players. Back in the 70s even dirty teams like Leeds were worth watching because they were all British.
Watching 22 prima donnas kicking a piece of leather around a field for 2 hours isn't my idea of fun, particularly when most of the players appear to be grossly overpaid foreigners who only care about the "bottom line".
Sometimes, these "prima donne" (the plural form) were grand with their off-stage personalities, and demands on fellow troupe members, musicians, set and wardrobe designers, producers and other staff but were deferentially tolerated because of their commensurate talent and "pulling power", that is, their draw at the box office. From this experience, the term "prima donna" has come into common usage in any field denoting someone who behaves in demanding, often temperamental, fashion revealing an inflated view of themselves, their talent, and their importance. Due to this association, the contemporary meaning of the word has taken on this negative reference.
Today the term has become a mainstream word outside of opera to often describe a vain, undisciplined, egotistical, obnoxious or temperamental person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team.
What about city and arsenal. they have no brits in their teams.

I object to you calling the mighty Leeds of the 70's 'dirty'
'They were hard but fair'
Sam Runbald, yes fair's fair, Leeds only used to kick their opponents for 90 minutes. Unless there was extra time and then they'd kick them for 120.
No! You only have to watch this to see why, they were called the 'Mighty Leeds'
Leeds United 7 - 0 Southampton - 1971/72 - First Division.
well said tc,i have been watching the mighty hyde united (now hyde fc) for many years as well as man utd.
now i only bother going to hyde as there is the same passion by the 300 regs as the 75000 that go to old trafford.
10 quid to get in,2 quid programme,2.50 a pint and free for under 14s every league game(with adult)and after three points on sat things are looking up
Leeds United v Manchester United - Demolition Job 1972.
5-1
Want to see a real team watch this.
Leeds United 5-1 Manchester United 1971-72 Part 1
TMBC could have had FC United packing out the Tameside Stadium week in and week out when they were ground hunting.
Another profit making scheme gone begging by the socialist fools in charge.
Why have they dropped the United name?
Dirty whites. There's only one United.
the name drop is because its the 125th year that football has been played in the town.hyde fc was the original name of the club before the first world war.
Can you just turn up and pay to see Hyde FC or do you need to be a member or something?
Just turn up at the ground and pay. It is a local team and they play with passion than the Premier League Ponses. Try it just once and you will get the bug.
Terrible result at Droylsden last night but we played better than the result suggests.
Salford in the 70's
Stop the constant attention seeking Roy as you just annoy people with repitition.
As long as I annoy you, that will do me.
Thanks for the attention you gave me.
