Sean Wood: Persecution of birds of prey is still widespread

If you didn't get the Tameside Advertiser this week and you have concerns about the cruel persecution of our magnificent birds of prey at the hands of gamekeepers, as well as the reckless theft of eggs by 'collectors', click the image above to read Sean Wood's excellent article from his weekly column.

If you watch the short video below you will see a rare two buzzard stand off which I filmed this afternoon. These are the type of birds which are actively persecuted by gamekeepers. They, along with other birds of prey are persecuted because gamekeepers believe they are responsible for killing young game birds, which the gamekeepers don't like as they wish to preserve the game-birds so they can be shot for 'sport' by wealthy people with a lust for death.

The stand off in the video below is quite sad as this is the first time I have ever seen the young chick, which was born last year, get the better of his dad. It just about sums up the trials and tribulations of parenthood. The parents do all they can to successfully raise the young, then the young quickly grow and begin to challenge the authority of the parents. Ah, such is life!

Well done for highlighting an important issue TC, but 'wealthy people with a lust for death' is a bit class war melodrama.

Well the shooters on the moors I have come across are certainly not Working Class lads and lasses and it is the lust for death which attracts them. If they wanted to shoot nothing but moving objects they could shoot clay pigeons to their hearts content. It is the 'thrill of the kill' which is the main motivator.

Hunting should be encouraged amongst young men. It promotes masculine (i.e non-squeamish, feminised and cry baby) values. Being a bunny hugger doesn't denote automatic 'moral' superiority.

I've no problem with hunting, it's what men's brains are wired for. In fact I learned due to some testing that I'm one of the rare people whose brain is wired to hunt on my own having better instincts than your ordinary chap.

Posh people in dinner jackets chasing foxes on horses or blasting birds out of the sky for fun is no hunting, it's just posh people compensating for their impotency as human beings.

If they have a lust for death, then they have the money and contacts to go after bigger more dangerous game.

Imagine whale hunting. Stood on the prow with the spray in your face, line up the sights, pull the trigger, wham! The harpoon slams into the great beast as the steel wire races out.
It was more than an industry, many of those who took part in the hunt must have thrilled at the experience.

TC have you got permission from the big boss at new charter housing, to post these matters of blood sports.?

Tameside Citizen said...

I am afraid I do not, however I am aware that the bosses and enforcers at New Charter take a dim view of their tenants discussing matters of blood sports or big game hunting on the t'internet.

SS, I don’t think they would participate if there was any direct risks to themselves. I think that’s one of the reasons why they like sitting in shooting butts waiting for defenceless birds to fly by. Put them on the savannas of Africa to face lions and wild dogs armed with nothing but a spear and dagger and they would by crying into their Bollinger and begging to come home.

You sound like a bloody leftie to me TC.

I would love to go out into the wilderness armed only with a spear, basic clothing and a good knife, it was a rite of passage for the Spartans. It would also be nice to have a good wolf pelt to wear for blots and for creeping the eff out of Labourites at election counts.

The persecution of Foxes, Birds, Badgers, Wales, Seals, Elephants,
Rhinos, Mountain Gorillas, and so on and son on. Is evil, and the people that do it are beasts.

Sorry that's an insult to these great beasts and animals, calling their persecutors beasts.

Bunnyhuggers R us are back. Pass the hankies and mops to clear up all the tears and blood from the bleeding hearts.

Cats annoy me, my sister has one, they aren't pets, just wild animals that sponge of humans.

Dogs are much better, they are your best friend, security system, ghost spotter, rodent-killer, entertainment system and chair-shagger, all in one!
