Eating out of the palm of my hand

What an amazing little bird. Not only will it eat from my hand but it also comes out at night when other birds are asleep. The buzzards will never come this close. What this little bird lacks in size it certainly makes up for in courage.

Brilliant TC and great photographs too. It must have been hungry to come so close.

Cheers Bill, it was taken up near Crowden. As I parked the car this little fella flew straight over and looked to see if I had any goodies, which luckily I did (nuts) and as a result I got these pictures.

I went on a great walk in the fresh snow too: On to the Longdendale Trail, up through Wild Boar Clough onto Bleaklow, head along the tops in the general direction of Woodhead and then down near the tunnel and back along the trail to the car. Hardly a soul in sight - what a brilliant day! And who was waiting near the car for the night time shot, or was it more nuts? Yep, the little bold Robin.

Have you ever ventured onto Bleaklow Bill?

I have been on Bleaklow a couple of times TC.

The last time was in October when we passed over Bleaklow Head on finishing the Pennine Way North to South.

It's certainly well named, it is a bleak place! Our route was up Torside Clough to Bleaklow Head.

Thanks Bill, I know that route well. When it has been dry for a number of weeks it is worth scrambling up the stream above Reaps Farm to reach Bleaklow Head. It could never be attempted at this time of year because the potential for serious injury after slipping on icy rocks would be great. However the difference between a lightweight such as I and a seasoned expert such as you is; the Crowden to Bleaklow Head would be my whole walk, not just something tagged onto the end of a complete walk of the Pennine Way. I would never have the stamina to complete such a mammoth walk.

Bleaklow does indeed live up to its name on dull Autumn days, but on a bright day I find it stunning. In my opinion there is no better time to savour the outstanding beauty of the untamed wilderness of Bleaklow than when it is covered in fresh snow as it was on Monday.
