Tameside Reporter makes a comeback

The Tameside Reporter, a weekly paper in danger of closing after 157 years, is to be relaunched under new ownership this week. It was rescued by a housing association, New Charter, after its previous publishers, Reporter & Chronicle Newspapers, could no longer sustain production.

New Charter promises that the paper will have "a new look and a stronger focus on the community." The organisation's chief executive, Ian Munro, said: "We have helped to secure a future for the paper while saving an important part of local history."

In an online message announcing the relaunch (which is also published on the New Charter site), editor Nigel Skinner told readers the paper would be "dedicated to providing independent journalism to Tameside residents." But a Burnley-based blog site, Northern Voices, is sceptical about the pledge of independence, claiming that New Charter has close ties to Tameside council. It wonders whether the paper will publish articles or letters that are critical of the housing trust, the council and three academy schools sponsored by New Charter, which also owns Tameside community radio.

Some 15,000 copies of the Reporter will be delivered free on Thursday to homes across nine towns in its Greater Manchester area. A further 10,000 will available for sale at local newsagents. Its partner title, the Glossop Chronicle, will also be relaunched on the same day. Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/

I bet the paper will be delivered for free to New Charter owned properties.

I imagine it will operate as a free trial in the run up to the local elections targeting key Labour marginals.

How can the Tameside Reporter be 157 years old when the borough of Tameside was created in 1974? N

Malicious contamination and product extortion are perhaps the most financially damaging incidents a company can face. What kind of person would attempt to destroy a small family run business by contaminating food products?

Three militants planned to detonate explosives in rucksacks and ram a car fixed with blades into a crowd of people in Britain in a major assault that could have been more devastating than the 2005 attacks in London, a court heard on Monday.

Prosecutor Brian Altman told the jury the defendants had planned to cause mayhem in an unspecified location by igniting up to eight rucksack bombs in a suicide attack and possibly detonating bombs on timers in crowded areas.

Battle of Britain hero William Walker dies aged 99.

Flt Lt William Walker, born in Hampstead, north London, suffered a stroke last Thursday.

He died in hospital on Sunday, the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust said.

The Battle of Britain was the German air force's attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF from July to September 1940, early in World War II.

Their ultimate failure was one of the turning points of the war and prevented Germany from invading Britain.

Is there a concentration of BME paedo-rapists there?

Are the social services not advising the girls of the dangers of the BME paedo-rapists or are the police better at catching the BME paedo-rapists?

A leading human rights barrister has said talks over a separate black footballers' association have begun.

Peter Herbert, who chairs the Society of Black Lawyers and helped set up a Black Police Association, says the discussions are at a preliminary stage.

Herbert added that any new group would seek to meet with the PFA to discuss matters on a regular basis.

And he said the new group could also tackle the under-representation of black managers in football.

"They are suffering systematic racism and the gross under-representation at managerial level of black players as coaches and managers is a scandal," he said.

Under-representation of black managers in football (by the same measure, is there an over-representation of black football players when compared the the number of blacks in the UK as a whole?)

Israeli Jews Support Apartheid State said...

Palestinians should be denied the right to vote if Israel annexes the West Bank and should be required to live separately – in effect creating apartheid-style state – according to a poll published in Haaretz, the leading Israeli newspaper.

The poll exposes strong support for institutionalized discrimination against Palestinians. But the poll's questions and terminology, and Haaretz's publication of it seem intended to stir the emotional debate about the future shape of Israel during an election campaign.

Haaretz said the poll results exposed “anti-Arab, ultra-nationalist views espoused by a majority of Israeli Jews.”

Many Palestinians contend they already live with systemic discrimination both in Israel and in the West Bank where Jewish settlements are linked by a network of special roads and have their own access to scarce water supplies.

Oy Vey, oh ze suffering! I wonder will the local Zionist MP's and councillors support this blatant racism?

With tghe rich greedy of Britain asset stripping the welfare state and acquiring private buisinesses out of the deal at knock down prices. FRefusing to pay their taxes with wealthy owing £128 Billion to the people of Britain, all of the money is sliding to the South of England. Will this imbalance slow the rotation of the planet, adjust its orbit and shift into reverse polarity and will the poor people who havent died of hypothermia or hunger, or disabled people murdered by ATOS or the new born disabled children and elderly in hospitals succumb to The Liverpool Pathways to Care (approx 24,000 plebs per annum) fall off the planet? or will conservative eugenics prevent this?
