Excellent idea Carl. I heartily applaud Mr Simmons, who walks the walk as well. He took nearly 16% of the vote in the Denton South Ward at last May's council elections standing as an independent on this issue.
We need more individuals prepared to take principled stands on causes and issues they feel strongly about. As for councillors, we certainly don't need one for every 3700 Tamesiders. Especially when each part-time amateur costs us an average of £22,000, total, a whopping £1.25 million. Compare that to MPs: on approximately £65000 each one manages to represent an average of 97,000 people, if the changes go ahead and MPs numbers are reduced to 600 that will rise to 105,000.
Many Tamesiders are really feeling the pinch but the upper echelons of the the council (non-elected as well) seem to be cruising through unaffected in nice little, cosy cocoon.

it's alot of money said...

Well said Carl but remember, they don't like anyone drawing attention to how much they are making.
Some of these Labour Councillors are very close to being millionaires.
Remember the hard left street thug from the 70's Councillor John Taylor, he has made £200,000 in the last 8 years.
These corrupt Labour Mafia types use the police to try and frame you, if you persist in your path of exposing them all.

How do you make out that there is one councillors for 3700 tamesiders ? what about the tamesiders that have no councillors ? ie the votes you lot put in the bin BNP VOTER ? ho i get it you are now forcing them to have crap councillors that dont represent there views

Remember what they tried to do to Liam Billington of Tameside Eye.
The Police/Labour harassed him, intimidated him. This is what they do! If you get to close to their comfort zone.

Stuff the BNP and all its manic posters, let`s here more from all the realists in Tameside who seek to expand the topics far beyond the
intelligence of those battering their heads on the wall of failure.
Self obsessed morons produce nothing, contribute repetitive crap, and slag off the folk who see far more problems in Tameside than those daily contemplating their own navels every day.
Do they ever mention the problems which face the 200,000 Tamesiders, whether it be poor education, lousy health service, shocking environment, filth everywhere, roads and pavements full of craters,no they totally concentrate on their limited knowledge which begins and ends with the BNP,and the race issue.
Can you imagine sitting in a pub having a pint hoping to have an intelligent conversation with these
types across a wide variety of subjects,NO BLOODY CHANCE.

I have stood as a BNP candidate 6 times in local elections and once in a General Election and each time I have polled strongly. I campaigned on a wide range of issues and have not focussed obsessively on the race issue as you imply. So please get your facts straight before you come on this blog pontificating about a subject that you clearly know nothing about.

Well said NCB. Some people come on here and chat so much uninformed rubbish it is unbelievable.

A real load of crap, wrong assumption, and an obvious joker.
Keep an eye out for me here, and that sad old man could buy and sell you on any subject you imagine you know.

Kettle Black another usage from a Tameside Politician who is really brain dead when challenged and he knows it.
Start Public Open meetings and I would demolish your rhetoric rapid as previously done at Waterside and Mottram and the Denton Tower farce.
I could prove any time how dense
Tameside Politicians with facts not rhetoric.

I live in Denton South and I've been impressed with Carl Simmons' campaign; having 3 ward councillors is a waste of money as one councillor per ward would suffice. Here are the stats:

The average Tameside ward has 10,000 electors, yet they are represented by 3 ward councillors.

The average parliamentary constituency in Tameside has 67,000 electors, yet they are represented by only one MP.

Quite right ncb, what a joke!
57 councillors but only 3 MPs for exactly the same area - Tameside.

Anonymous 20:03, people join the BNP and get involved in nationalism for various reasons and you are doing them a disservice if you're saying it's all about race.
Law and order; family values; tradition; the rights and survival of the British indigenous people; their culture, heritage and history; preserving our British identity are some of the things nationalism is about.
It's true the core of this is stopping and reversing the mass immigration demographic timebomb that is eradicating us from our own land.
Nationalists by their very nature tend to concentrate on the bigger picture but over the last few years the BNP, with their excellent local knowledge and campaigns, has played a major part in seriously unsettling a rotten Labour mafia. They didn't make a breakthrough, largely as a result of some extremely questionable tactics by the ruling mob, and the BNP as a whole has declined considerably, but they haven't gone away and nationalism will make its presence felt under one name or another in the coming years. Because unlike the ruling main party elites all over Britain, nationalists acually BELIEVE in what they're doing.

The UK population is now approximately 63 million. If the proposed changes happen (and I hope they do) they will be represented by 600 MPs. That works out at one MP for every 105,000 people. I assume MPs are responsible for representing everyone residing in their constituency including non-electors, foreigners, children etc.
In Tameside approximately 215,000 people are represented by 57, admittedly part-time, councillors. That's one for every 3772 people. Total cost, approximately £1.25 million.

I suggest we've got FAR too many councillors, especially in the current economic circumstances when local government budgets are supposedly under massive pressure.

The crux said...

Does anyone have accurate information on how many hours 'work' these part-time councillors do?

council HQ tea boy said...

From what I see they do very little work. If they do more than two hours a day on councilor related activity they have had a very busy day. They spend a lot of time milling around the Advertiser peeps.

Alf Garnett said...

sort your heads out ? how can thare be one councillor for 3772 people in tameside ? how can somone represent you when they dont have the same views ? I know lots of people that would never go and see a councillor for that reson ?

I DIDNT VOTE FOR ANY OF YOU LOT SO DONT COUNT IN YOUR BENT STATS OR PEOPLE LIKE ME

The truth is out there... said...

And there you have it 'Nationalist':

There are simply not enough people who share 'the same views' as you to elect your chosen representatives.

Unfortunately no amount of whining about dodgy election practices or dark conspiracies will change this.

For example, if all the alleged 'care home voters' suddenly voted en masse for a nationalist party, would that be enough to elect one councillor?

Alf Garnett said...

650.000 votes from half of england so weres are MPs ?

2006 745 votes 24.8% of vote cast so who represents these voters and the other thousands of voters, across Tameside|? do you call this democracy ?

Alf Garnett said...

We need a bigger range of councillors from all parties to stop the lefty,s having free rain ? all the people of timeside should be represented not just the brain dead that think its ok to give our country away or give the new comers better treatment

This Councillor walks around the streets with his ladder, spends alot of time in the Top Astley pub. He used to post on here under the name Wildy.
Also posts anonymous leaflets with John Taylor in 2008.

Cllr Brian Wild
Chair - Dukinfield District Assembly
Basic Allowance - £11,640.00
Special Responsibility Allowance - £9,581.00 (the pub)
Total - £21,221.00

Dear Carl
I've recently under-taken a campaign to highlight to the public how much my local Cllrs are making, and other Labour Cllrs on the Council gravy train.
I've delivered seven thousand of these leaflets over the last month in Dukinfield.
Cllr John Taylor has told the police to stop me posting these leaflets around his area of Dukinfield.
He is also using the police and courts to stop me from attending Council meetings and the Dukinfield DA.
He complained to the police that I called him a nasty, violent, man after this incident during the 2010local elections.
