And now one for the wildlife lovers
The bottom video features a squirrel happily eating sausage rolls. There is nothing dramatic occurring but it looks so relaxed and contented while munching away despite being within pouncing range of a carnivorous buzzard. When the buzzard first started feeding at this spot the squirrels stayed well clear but now they seem quite used to its presence and barely avoid it.
The top video is of the buzzard I feed. The film starts in slow motion and then reverts to normal speed with sound. The buzzard looks very cautious and now I know the exact reason why as there is another buzzard, who I am almost certain is the partner of the one in the film who also visits this wonderful spot where easy food can often be found. Watching them swoop down at each other with talons at the ready would suggest that this is hotly disputed territory between the two and that neither has any desire to share the food they find.
If you watch the film you will see the buzzard claw and eventually carry away a large piece of meat. I have been experimenting to see what the lifting capabilities of these birds are and I have concluded that anything under 450g is a breeze but above that and they struggle - especially in the restricted confines of this relatively dense woodland. The piece of meat in the film weighed 560g and if you watched the film you can see it was a real struggle to get airborne carrying such weight but it did eventually succeed and take it back to the main nest - a place I would love to go and plant a camera but which would be almost impossible to reach without specialist equipment.

Amazing, these birds only weigh about 800 - 900 grams and can carry fully half that.
As for Tufty, I suggest shooting or gassing, he's vermin.
Save The Red Squirrel That's my view. Love Wildlife and the English Countryside
Tameside police are truly useless at their job.
They left this lad waiting for over four months, before they informed him, that, no investigation would be carried out.
Because they had left it too long.
Buzzards have a nasty habit of attacking people. They are known to cause significant injury including blinding. See the way it clawed that meat - it could do the same to your head.
It does have the look of a predator and I wouldn't fancy it landing in my back garden.
In fact the chipmonk film is even more amazing. It is adorable.
Kill Tufty, he's vermin.
When I first started school we used to read a book called Tufty. If I recall corrrectly it had white cover with a cartoon picture of a red squirrel holding an acorn. I think you got a badge or some other prize when you completed reading it.
It was a road safety campaign. Now we have ten million speed bumps, installed by the lunatics who rule us, instead.
A pest but cute...............>>>
Yes, it is cute and very very greedy.
Went for a walk in these woods today, very nice. There are rumours of one or two bunny huggers wandering about.
