Probably the best local election leaflet I have ever seen. The attention to detail is phenomenal, the fat cats with their bags of loot are even wearing Labour rosettes if you look carefully. And what a selfless gesture to publicly go on the record when there is a genuine, albeit small possibility of winning, and pledge to give all monies earned as a councillor to charity.
If the people of Dukinfield really do want to stop the councillors expenses gravy train they cannot say Roy West did not present them with the opportunity to do it.
Well done Roy West - you would have my vote on this issue if I lived in Dukinfield!

Wait until the voting public meet fatcat number seven on the train. A lifesize costume version of this gravy train rider will be touring the ward armed with facts and figures showing the voting public exactly how much each of their councillors leech off the public purse every year. They will then be asked a simple question - are they worth it. If they answer no they will be given more literature about an honest candidate who is fighting for the people and not financial rewards like the rest.
It might be attention seeking but it also helps expose the now endemic 'snouts in the trough' attitude that infests government and council chambers. "Yes, it's the 'ordinary' people who should suffer not councillors, MPs etc, we're above all that." Many of them truly believe this, and that they are in some way superior and should be exempt, and protected from the current dire economic circumstances that are affecting tens of millions of people so severely.
Then there's the massively overpaid top heavy 'management' of Boroughs like Tameside, with Executive this and Senior that...we managed perfectly well without all these useless, chronically overpaid non-jobs a few years ago, now they infest the public sector.
I WOULD vote for this candidate purely as a protest against all of the above.

Many councillors, especially those such as former union officials, could easily afford a gesture of solidarity with the large number of Tamesiders currently suffering badly in the dire economic circumstances. Ten per cent of their vast allowances would hardly make a dent and there would obviously be 'ways round it' so they wouldn't actually lose out at all. The chance of them actually doing it however is virtually zero.

While talking about state activity I have heard an amusing story. It is reported that the Government is connecting many civil servants to the internet on their office computers. Officially this is to encourage the use of on-line services like paying bills etc.

POLICE on Merseyside investigated 10 allegations of electoral misrepresentation during the 2010 General Election.
But only one of the alleged crimes under the Rights of the Person Act, which governs elections, required further action.
Most of the complaints were about party political leaflets not having the printer’s name and address on, as is required by the law, while two were about false statements being made about candidates.
Police gave informal advice over the printing of one set of leaflets but no action over any of the other complaints.
There were 216 reported complaints in England about the elections.
