The economic downturn claims another victim
It is a shame to see this car dealership on Clarke Way in Hyde in this sorry state. When I first started driving I used to buy my low profile Avon tyres from here. It was known as Stuart Wilson in those days. When it was re-born as American Pick-Up Trucks I doubted it would last because the demand for American gas guzzlers is a very niché market and I always doubted that they could attract enough customers from Tameside and the surrounding areas to keep it afloat. I think the FSA ruling which prevented them from issuing credit was probably the final nail in their coffin. However, when they also become a Mitsubishi dealer I thought there may be hope, but sadly this was short lived and now all there is remaining is the abandoned showroom. A far cry from this business was hailed as a great Tameside success story.
