Many roads across Tameside untreated – expect chaos in the morning

I recently heard rumours that supplies of road salt were running low. Judging from the many untreated roads across Tameside in the early hours of Monday morning the rumours would appear to be true. I took these pictures around 1.30 am and the temperature was -1.5. The slush and compressed snow had already turned to ice – I am glad I don’t have to be on the roads in the morning rush hour!

Loads of grit in stock, they just don't want to pay the overtime

According to a user on a forum who is related to one of TMBC's employees claims that roads are going ungritted due to a lack of funds.

"My mate's lad (23), is on one the gritting teams when it's needed, he told me earlier today that Tameside Council have known about this bad weather for well over a week but have no grit and no money to buy any.. Result..... Even our major roads in Tameside at this moment are virtually impassable and dangerous.."

It would seem that we can afford to give £50,000 to Africa, whilst we continue to have dangerous roads. What would be on Roy Oldham's conscience if there was an accident?

Liam knows nothing about how the council works like most people who moan on here don't, Gritters have been out 24 hours a day since Thursday trying to keep all major road clear, on Saturday a large number of side road started to be cleared then once again they were re directed to all the main roads.
Adequate grit is in place all machines have been well maintained again, and the staff are working round the clock to clear the main roads.
Already record amount of grit have been deposited on our roads by a dedicated team of workers and all you can do moan.

Snowman you are wrong. The roads are lethal and the council are to blame. I will be writing to the papers.
