Legal proceedings to be launched against the Longendale Conservatives?

I doubt it. If I read it correctly, his letter accuses Roy Oldham rather than the Borough Solicitor. Their website says they have not even been contacted by Tameside. Probably just scare tactics.

The Borough Solicitor is not amused said...

It was this time last year Janet crossed swords with Roy. Sandra is fully aware of the outcome of that encounter and she knows what Roy wants with regards to the Toffs. Expect the proverbial book to be thrown at the Longendale Toffs.

By the time Oldham retires his leaving present will be a jar of embalming fluid. Still it could be worse, imagine Taylor being in charge.

Tameside Eye said...

Proverbial being the operative word here of course. If Roy Oldham and his motley crew at TMBC want to take it to court, then let them!

Compare what is classed as expenses next to an MP.

For example, if James Purnell wanted to be chauffeur driven from his home to his place of work then that would be classed as an expense.

So why is it not in the case of our glorious leader?

If the best Labour can do is drag expenses into a class issue because someone said something who is supposedly living in some mansion of sorts, then this is going to slap bang them in the face.

People can see that Roy Oldham isn't telling the truth when he has the least expenses. And any judge in the right mind would see that.

And whilst I am on a rant, if Roy Oldham is so confident over the expenses issue, then why does he not pay for a solicitor himself and fight the issue? Or would you rather waste more taxpayers' money. The borough solicitor is not legal aid for shite councillors - just ask Cllr. Parker-Perry.

How Labour can attack Peter Haynes over his place of residence when James Purnell dodged paying CGT on his MANSION and who claims about £2,000 a month courtesy of the taxpayer for his rent in London is beyond me.

Hey ho - just dig yourself a deeper grave Roy!

PS. 4 weeks on the trot of people against the money being given to Kenya (Read the Advertiser). When are you going to pay the money back to the taxpayer out of your own pocket Roy?

I'm just off to change my underpants said...

Liam have you ever said what you print on here to Roy's face, or to any of the councillors you slag off ?.
Do you remember leaving the council meeting this year when the chairman of the council slapped your arse for being a naughty boy,do you remember what I said to you as you passed me.
Its a bit different when your face to face isn't it,and we all saw how you performed that night.

tonydj said...

This only goes to show the importance of accurate research.

My understanding of expenses is where someone spends their own money on some service or product and then claims the money back.

Im my experience pre-booking does not count as "expenses" because the recipient does not incur the expense themselves, at any time, even temporary.

Vince Cable said...

The letter says that £7K was CLAIMED to recover the costs of internet connections at home. That fits tonydj's definition so should have been in Oldham's figure.

We told them so called rebels to listen to John, they will struggle to get six members out working when the election comes its an all out civil war now in our party and these idiots are to blame.

We have blown the best chance we ever had to win Stalybridge and Hyde constituency,we needed a good local candidate and we had a few to choose from until people who say they knew better intervened.
Just a load of idiots who have blown our chance away let them work the area now.

In the same edition as when their letter was published, the Tory candidate for Longdendale was also featured with his photo in another story giving Oldham a hard time over the bypass.

Oldham and co. are just in a panic that they're finally got a problem that there's a real alternative, and are just trying to scare everyone...instead of getting out campaigning their style is to just make threats. How on earth are they going to sue over that? Pathetic....if anyone should be issuing an apology we all know who it really should be!

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair costs British taxpayers £6 million a year to protect while he travels the world earning millions for himself, it has been revealed.

The almost continuous overseas travel which Mr Blair undertakes means that more than 20 special officers have to be assigned to protect him on a rotation basis — at a cost of more than £115,000 a week.

Police protection is extended as a matter of course to former Prime Ministers, but Mr Blair has grievously exploited the practice to the point where his personal security now costs the taxpayer more than the budget to protect the incumbent Prime Minister.

According to reports, Mr Blair is abroad most of the time. His daily bill for bodyguards now runs at more than £16,000 a day.

At the same time, Mr Blair has earned more than £18 million since leaving office in June 2007. Most of this money has been made with contracts in the Middle East, where security for someone who was responsible for the war crime which was the Iraq War is at a premium.

Mr Blair also earns about £100,000 a time to give a speech or appear at an event such as a recent booking to open an energy plant in Kazakhstan.

According to reports, senior Whitehall officials are becoming increasingly uneasy with the expenditure. “It does seem fair that he should make a contribution to the costs of his protection while he is on well-paid private assignments,” an official was quoted as saying.

* Meanwhile, a rare flash of honesty from a MP of the usually utterly corrupt, deceitful and lying Labour Party has admitted that Mr Blair and Mr Brown have left “no legacy” for this country.

Labour MP Ken Purchase, who is stepping down at the next election, said that the “superficial, money-obsessed” Mr Blair had had failed to leave a legacy.

Tony Blair may have been a traitor and in the pay of the Internationalists but it can never be said he was a cruel fox killing snob like the current leader of the opposition.

The Tories are just as bad as Labour said...

As the sellout Tories want us to scrap Trident The Ruskies are developing a brand new nuclear arsenal.

Never forget it was the Tory policy of stripping the armed forces of resources which led to the Falklands invasion.

Two local Tories have made large donations to the local party recently.
We understand that the donations have been made because it is strongly rumoured that the Labour party have around £65,000 in their fighting fund.
The Tories have been concerned for a while now about the amount of money Labour have been spending on elections and local advertising ,you may have seen the recent adverts in both local papers recently from labour.
We understand that these adverts will run for the next few months and will cost the Labour party around £6,000 on top of that each ward is spending thousands each month on newsletters, and we have just had them posting thousands of Christmas cards.
The two Tories have made it clear that they do not want their money being spent by the so called rebels and no money is to used to defend any legal battles they have got themselves into.
Looks like the general election is well under way here in Tameside.

NEWS FLASH:
Rob Allard, spent a night sleeping rough to find out what it is like to be homeless, it emerged yesterday. The Candidate braved temperatures of -4C as he bedded down in a sleeping bag on top of cardboard boxes in a Mottram alley.
The Candidate, Leader of the new Tameside Conservatives(or soon to be), was aiming to raise public awareness of the homeless.

Rob said: " I took precautions - finding a secluded spot in an alley shielded by wheelie bins.

"But there was no shielding from the bitter cold or the concrete floor or the fear of being accosted by drug dealers, BNP or those out to give you working class people a good kicking.

"One of the hairiest moments was when I realised this will be me in a few months, broken after these legal proceedings take me to the cleaners".

For the last time the TAMESIDE CONSERVATIVES have not split we are stronger then ever and the other parties know it, there has been no great fight, just one or two altercations as all parties have once in a while. We are all behind our choosen candidate and feel the victory of Conservative gains this year. There is also not going to be a leadership challenge we support John Bell all the way

shut up Mr Blundering Lane said...

Mr Blundering lane, let me reassure you their is a split in your party and you know it and are now trying to hide it on this site.
I spoke with an ex conservative councillor, who still has friends in the party they tell her everthing and because she is barred from both party clubs for her opinions. Well she can talk and boy does she know whats is going on.

p.s
it was Roy West who tipped me off over christmas if he knows then we all know. the tories are in turmoil.

I thought all large donations to any party had to be declared, if this is correct can we find out who the two big donations came from.

May I ask a legal question of the local "Legal Eagles"?

Who is claiming to be libeled?

And why was I told by a leading council employee earlier this year during my "censorship / FoI" complaint to the council that the council do not respond to every allegation against them?

ie they denied the claims in the government report that they censored the press but would not take steps to "clear their name"

Who chooses which allegations are quietly ignored and which will be met with legal threats?

Odd.

CLLRS. BASIL BEELEY & DAVID BUCKLEY PRESENT THEIR DONATION TO SOME OF THE SCOUTS AND THEIR GROUP SCOUT LEADER, ANDY DANIELS

Stalybridge Conservative councillors are funding urgent improvements to the headquarters of the 7th Stalybridge Scout Group.

Stalybridge South councillors – Basil Beeley, David Buckley and Doreen Dickinson – offered their assistance, after hearing that the emergency fire doors at the Scout’s HQ needing bringing up to standard, following a safety inspection.

Cllrs. Beeley and Buckley recently visited the Scouts’ Sandhills HQ to hand over a cheque for £200, from their council ward monies, to Group Scout Leader, Andy Daniels.

Cllr. Ruth Welsh hands over a cheque for £200 to Brenda James, deputy church warden of St. George’s - watched by David Hollington, licensed lay minister and Sue Smith, member of the United Church and Chair of Hyde and District Fellowship of Churches - in front of the door damaged by the burglars.

Kind-hearted Conservatives have stepped in to replace gardening equipment at a Hyde church, after callous burglars stole it.

The burglars broke into an historic outbuilding, which housed the equipment at St. George’s Church, damaging the door of the listed building in the process.

On hearing of the church’s plight, Hyde Werneth Conservative councillors – Ruth Welsh, Derek Baines and John Bell – decided to donate £200 from their council ward monies to pay for replacement equipment.

Cllr. Ruth Welsh said, “Whoever stole this equipment must be extremely uncaring. Not only did they steal much needed gardening equipment, but they also damaged the door to a listed building in the process. As such, we are only too eager to assist St. George’s in this way, so that a much loved church and landmark does not go without.”

the percentage of Conservative voters who are certain to vote has increased from 61% to 68% since last month, while at the same time. among Labour supporters this has decreased slightly (from 51% to 49%). It may be that the Pre Budget Report and subsequent reaction has resulted in shoring up Conservative voters’ determination to get to polling booths, as well as curtailing economic optimism among the public as a whole.

In the run-up to the 1979 General Election, Labour’s Prime Minister James Callaghan lost the election in the “Winter of Discontent”. Is Brown doomed to defeat in 2010?

in answering tonydj

From the newspaper's apology, it appears they have reacted to a complaint from the Borough Solicitor's office.

If that is right, then they must be concentrating on the accusation that "he wasted his Borough Solicitors time in trying to force us to issue an apology"

This reads to me that they are accusing Roy Oldham (of wasting Council Officers' time) rather than accusing the Officer of anything (never mind of having behaved inappropriately).

I suppose it could possibly be read the other way, but you would have to be very brave to bring a legal action based on that. I doubt if TMBC could bring the case; whoever felt defamed would have to do that as an individual, and they would have to have a spare £30,000 for the deposit in any case.

Tory/Labour all the same. Same evil treacherous forces control their policies for Britain. All of you piss in the same pot!

its game on said...

The money these councillors are handing over is council tax payers money and not their own money, its a scheme brought in by a Labour council many years ago.
The Tories will win nothing in Tameside in the general election and wont gain any seats in the council elections, they may lose a couple of seats and I am prepared to wager a bet on it.
£200 on no wins for the Tories in the general election and a further £200 on them losing two seats in the council elections if they hold the general election and council election on the same day.

Any takers ?

In reply to Tony DJ.

I guess, and this is only a guess, there could be two reasons why the local authority would consider defamation action against the Longdendale tory bloke and not you, aside of the accuracy of any comments.

The first is taking action against a cripple isn’t the best photo opportunity in the world. You can see the headline now as you enter the court on your sticks facing the full force of the law.

Secondly, there is the asset test, if you don’t have any then there is no point in just creating a martyr, that’s why billingon and west get away with it.

Mr Anonymous reply to tonydj. Let me put this question to you. In this John Taylor smear leaflet last local elections, he puts three questions to the people of Dukinfield about me, look at question three he asks of me.
Whats the difference between his question and my question.?
Is it true that you served a prison sentence Mr Taylor.?
Or Mr Anonymous, is it just one rule for him and another for the rest of us?

Ex Tory leader Micheal Howard says our party leaders have to take on the BNP head on.
Micheal did try to take on his own party years ago about immigration and asylum seekers, he was hammered by them and the opposition.
Micheal is the only leader who had the balls to take on this subject and he got no backing from anyone he then went on to lose the elections standing down shortly after, back him now or face the consequences,we let him down on the immigration issue don't let him down on facing up to the BNP.
