A few items of interest from this weeks Tameside Advertiser. After recently being accused, by one of the better contributors to this blog, of being biased against Labour because I failed to mention the fact Stalybridge Conservative Club was recently fined for “dishonestly receiving a Premier League football match with intent to avoid payment”. I have decided to post the story from the Advertiser so it can be discussed. I have also put the contrasting story of Stalybridge Labour club who have recently been celebrating their inclusion in Camra‘s good beer guide - however, good beer or not I would avoid the place like the plague if the creepy guy pictured to the left of James Purnell was a regular feature.
The other item telling of a potential direct Guide Bridge - London rail link caught my eye because of the inaccuracies it contained. it is a very poorly cobbled together article. The article states if the proposals amount to anything the GNWR will return, then going on to add GNWR was a major player in the years before the network was nationalised in the 1940’s. All well and good but there is a problem - no such company ever existed. There was a LNER, LNWR, GNR, GWR but no GNWR, I am also not convinced there ever was a direct Guide Bridge - London service, however I stand to be corrected on this point because in a historical context Guide Bridge was once a very important junction.

I have been told that at least four conservative councillors were in the club viewing a City game when the Sky inspectors raided the club, three of them left the club by the back door one stayed and retired to the bar for a swift half then left.
The candidate for Staly North was in the club but to far to pissed to know what was going on.
This club had been warned but took no notice they thought they were immune because certain high profile councillors got legless there very weekend.
All the extra revenue from the bar sales goes to helping the councillors produce their leaflets, expect a very poor quality leaflet for a few months until the fine is paid off.
All the main Parties are riddled with corruption and sleaze because their three way comfy cartel has ruled the roost for so long. Open your eyes and look around at the State Britain has been led to by these traitorous, self-serving crooks.
Get down to the Labour club in Stalybridge real cask ales genuine Sky TV view in comfort no fear of a raid,low prices good entertainment and you can meet genuine councillors who are there to help you.
Come and meet Ky Marland the only person campaigning in Staly South hes your next councillor, listen to Suzanne slagging off her Tory so called friends.
I am shocked and saddened at the way Suzanne has become a turncoat. We bent over backwards to help her - despite her drink problem, and this is how she thanks us! I am worried Labour are going to make gains in Staly South, and if we do not up our game we only have ourselves to blame.
Will Bell get the chop to let the ‘young guns’ take over if the Tameside Tories lose seats to Labour in next years local elections? If he gets the boot, who will replace him as the leader of the Tameside Tories?

If rail is privatised why does 40% of the entire transport budget go on it despite it only moving 5% of the public.

Off the rails - you mean off your head! When was the last time you travelled by train - 1973? When I travel to London I always go by train. It is faster than flying, taking time to get to and from airports into account. It is a lot faster than car - under 2 hrs from the centre of Manchester to the centre of London. It is also very relaxing with great views and of course it is very environmentally friendly.
The Billington Crew are hotly tipped to be running Tameside when the dinosaurs are put out to graze next May. We got rid of the Denton Fossils, the rest will be gone soon.
21st century, how much diesel/electricity did the leviathan used to transport a few hundred people to London use? You don't know so how do you know it's 'environmentally friendly'. An experiment done a few years ago on a packed commuter train into London calculated less pollution and environmental damage would have resulted if all the passengers had driven in in petrol 4.4 litre Range Rovers doing 15 mpg. The taxpayer can't go on subsidising people who are too lazy to drive. A 50% increase in rail usage, an utter impossibility in any case, would only result in a 4% reduction in car journeys. Good for business users and a small percentage of the moving public but outdated, inflexible and totally unaffordable in the real world.

Liam and Stacey have been running the show now for eighteen months,the old guard lost control long ago the infighting in Denton during the by-election brought it into the open.
The younger so called rebels are now in control of who the candidates are in each ward, they are writing reports out each time they attend council meetings these reports are then posted out to members explaining the poor performance of the existing councillors at council meetings.
Some councillors have made it very clear that they will not be out supporting other candidates in other wards, Stalybridge South are now under great pressure from the Labour candidate who is out every week campaigning in the ward.
Wards that the Tories had identified for some special treatment have been told you are on your own the wards that the Tories have now must be protected at all cost.
We have not knocked on a single door in any ward some have had poor quality leaflets while Labour are out day and night canvassing.
Wards that were there for the taking have now been abandoned we have told we must protect the old guard.
Our plans will soon be in place and there will be some more blood being spilled its inevitable you cant make an omelette without breaking an egg or two.

We get hammered every week about Afghanistan because we are in there protecting ourselves from Islamic extremist who want us live like they do, we see thousands of women marching on our streets protesting.
When they have had a few weeks covered from head to toe denied any education and made third rate citizens then they may want to protest, our troops are there protecting our way of life and trying to free that country.
When we have finished there it should be off to Burma to remove their undemocratic military Government, and asking the rest of the so called free world to be at our side helping us,then a quick trip into Africa to rid the world of Mugabe.
Take a look at history we Brits have policed the world for centuries, we have brought democracy to many countries we feed most of the world, millions of pounds leave our shores each day to help other countries, the Poles are now screwing us, remember why we went to war in the 1940s I do, to protect the Polish nation God bless them a fight worth fighting for and I would do it again, despite them screwing us now, that's the fault of the system not theirs.

'Protecting ourselves from Islamic extremists', do you mean the thousands that sneaked in amongst the millions via New Labour's open door - sorry floodgates - immigration policy. They infest and contaminate many of our cities with their western and Britain hating philosophy.
The 'Human Rights' Act and a rudderless, insane and incompetent government allow them to stay and spread their poison. New Labour have done more than any other government in history to put Britons and the survival of the British way of life and identity in danger.
Wait 'til the three main EU worshipping Parties get their way and let 76 million Turks in. Turkey is the gateway to the East. They will flood in to ponce off our 'money for nothing' benefits system and under EU law there is NOTHING we can do to stop the free movement of what would be classed as EU citizens. Time to pull out while Britain is still a sovereign nation.
There is nothing to gain from this club being fined or for that matter the jibes made by certain groups. For it is only a club, that is trying to survive in what was once a well supported place. Unfortunately times are changing and support for the Conservatives seems to be diminishing and thus without it abundance of members it has had to resort to what I can only say is fraud. As a member of this Club it is sad when it has had to come up with such criminally desperate measures in order to stay open. nevertheless more saddening then this is the fact that the Labour Club not only seems to be doing really well but it has support from it own party. I have never seen Doreen socialise here ever in 15 years of drinking there. The only time we see her or any councillor is when they hold meetings there. And if I am to be totally honest they only last about five minutes because nobody ever turns up to see them.
Moreover, worst then that is the fact that David Buckley has been told he can not drink anymore at the Labour Club. At the Labour Club!!!!!! Need I say anymore, should he ever have been drinking in there at all, his he not a Conservative through and through?
Support works both ways Doreen, you expect me to vote for Basil next year, but you will not support a club I have supported for years.
A club that is situated in the heart of the Community you so dearly say you protect, how many Gins have you drank at the Hare and Hounds this year.
Perhaps you will now support our Club, a little more in the future if there is one to support. I know you read these comments so I hope you take the warning, because if you don’t the next time that candidate from the Labour party knock on my door or phones me to ask if there is anything he can do I won’t be telling him to shove his Labour Spin as you call it. I will be asking him for a membership book.
Perhaps you could attend our New Years Eve party you and all the Councillors are more than welcome I will send you the tickets. You can pay for them on the night.
If you really wanted to support our Club you could send that Candidate from Stalybridge North, the amount he spends on beer I believe could not only pay for our fine but also our new extension.

With regards to Stalybridge Conservative Club; it would be sad to think the local councillors were not supporting this fine institution, and would hate to think it was in danger of going under.
I have only ventured in a couple of times in my life and that was during the early 1990’s when my good friend Alex Higgins (twice world snooker champion) was down on his luck and staying with me. Alex, who was a Conservative supporter at the time, used to have an obsession with going into Conservative clubs where ever he found them. During the early 90’s his career was on the wane and he was convinced it was because his cue was letting him down. He had a notion that antique snooker cues were better and the best place to acquire these antiquities was from Conservatives clubs which as a rule had a dedicated snooker room. Sadly Alex never did find a ‘magic’ antique cue that would resurrect his career and then cancer struck, but that is another story.
Incidentally, are members of the public allowed entry to club or is restricted to Conservative Party members?
the sad story here is that it is true? when was the last time the Conservative actually went to drink there apart from one not mentioning any names dominic...
