Tameside Council - best in the country?

Tameside Council has been hailed as the best in the country according to a new report. The independent report, published by the Audit Commission, gives Tameside top marks in terms of its housing, benefits, cultural services, use of resources, value for money, environment and adult social care. Services for children and young people were rated as performing well but with room for improvement. The council is the only single-tier authority out of more than 100 in the country to be awarded the top score in seven out of the eight service areas. The results have been taken from the latest Comprehensive Performance Assessment which Tameside has passed with flying colours for the past five years. Inspectors from the Audit Commission said the council was ‘improving well’ and continuing to ‘build on its track record of strong performance.’ It was praised for improving services that are most important to local people, for safeguarding children and young people and improving educational performance and helping young people prepare for work. Highlights also include crime levels continuing to fall, the creation of new jobs and work to make the borough more attractive which reaped benefits in Britain In Bloom. The report adds: "Tameside is one of the top performing authorities nationally and has excellent capacity to improve further. It benefits from strong ambition and leadership as well as highly-effective partnership working and value for money remains excellent." Council Leader, Councillor Roy Oldham said: "We have managed to maintain our position amongst the elite councils across the country and that has to be something we can all be proud of. The continued levels of success we have achieved since this system was introduced have been outstanding and puts us in a strong position as we ready ourselves for the next set of government targets. We are pleased the inspectors have acknowledged the sustained improvements we are making in both the services we provide and in the impact we are having in our communities and we are absolutely committed to being better still."Tameside Advertiser

We all know that this is utter bollocks. The figures are fluffed, all the council has to do is present falsified information to the Audit Commision who are more than happy to go along with the flow of the council.

Labour's vote is falling like a lead balloon and is an indication of how people are becoming more and more unsatisfied with their council.

This is all true, if you believe NewLabour statistics. Anyone?

Lay some people off and reduce the Council Tax. Businesses that live in the REAL world are doing it every day.
