Hundreds say farewell to Kathy
Hundreds of mourners gathered to bid farewell to a TV treasure. Kathy Staff, best known for her role as Last of the Summer Wine battleaxe Nora Batty, died earlier this month aged 80. Almost 400 mourners said goodbye to the "great lady of Dukinfield" at St Mark's church in her home town yesterday. The Union Jack at Dukinfield town hall flew at half mast while inside the church the community remembered her life on and off screen. Lifelong friend and fellow actor, Roy Barraclough - Coronation Street's Alec Gilroy - was absent but sent a tribute in which he spoke of the huge affection the general public had for Kathy and her roles in a string of TV favourites.
