David Davis – a rare exception to the rule – an honourable and principled politician?

Shadow home secretary David Davis has resigned as an MP. He is to force a by-election in his Haltemprice and Howden constituency which he will fight on the issue of the new 42-day terror detention limit. Mr Davis told reporters outside the House of Commons he believed his move was a "noble endeavour" to stop the erosion of British civil liberties. BBC News

What is going on the Conservative Party? A couple of days ago a leading North West Tory Les Byrom defected to Labour after saying he was "concerned" about an "unprincipled approach to politics.". Now today we have this astonishing revelation that David Davis has quit to create a by-election where he will focus his campaign on the Labour government’s attempt to destroy what civil liberties have left in this country. In the style of true Orwellian 'Newspeak' this evil government have been attempting to create a police state and are currently using the pretext of terrorism to achieve their goal. I sincerely hope Mr Davis’s effort to wake up the masses in relation to the Labour government’s real agenda succeeds. Why on earth the Tories chose the Blair clone over David Davies as their leader is still a mystery to me. Good luck Mr Davis!

We need those good Tory values.

Les Byrom resigned because he'd lost £17,500 in allowances from two fire authority posts he was demoted from. And his fake ‘concern’ supports Brown’s despotic 42-day detention – quite the opposite to the stand Davis has taken.

Good luck DD. Good riddance Byrom.

What must be borne in mind is the way in which "anti-terrorism" laws have been used in this country against people who were not terrorists and who could never be descibed as such.

Like the parents innvestigated to make sure they lived in their school's catchment area.

Like the OAP thrown out of the Labour Conference for heckling Blair and then charged under the Terrorism act.

Like the peace campaigner arrested for reading out the names of dead servicemen at The Cenotaph.

I could go on...

The BNP has decided not to contest the by-election in Haltemprice and Howden because the party supports Mr Davis's principled stance against New Labour's outrageous 42-day detention law.

Thinking people can see that we are on a slippery slope towards tyranny. Next the government will be demanding 90-day detention laws, then 120, then indefinite detention without trial with any dissent classed as "terrorism". The government is using the threat of Islamic terrorism as a smokescreen to lead us blindly down the road to a police state.

This is why I will keep going on about Taylor's meeting with the thug that directed a campaign of violence against a mother and her children.

Dear Mr Walker,

If David Davis is telling the truth about his motives then yes, I agree with him

Mr Wagg said at the Dukinfield DA that he needs people to help him and the police deal with crime problems. But he did not fully explain all the crap that you get back when you do come forward. Coming forward and giving evidence is an easy thing to say for Mr Wagg, but the fact is that people never complain anymore, its not worth it to many people. To much follow up shit from the drug addicts and people that allow their dogs to roam the streets and shit all over the place.
