Young Musician of the Year 2008

A 12-year-old trombonist last night became the youngest winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year award. Peter Moore, from Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, battled against four other talented youngsters in the final of the competition at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. He said: “It feels so good to join all the big names that have won before, and think of how prestigious it is.” Peter, who is from a family of brass players, moved from Northern Ireland at the age of 8. He has held the position of principal trombone of the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain for the past three years. He is in his third year at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester, and enjoys performing magic tricks. Peter said: “I think playing the trombone is fun. It’s something I always wanted to do. I didn’t want to pick a boring instrument.” Times Online
