Three Little Pigs 'too offensive'

A story based on the Three Little Pigs has been turned down from a government agency's annual awards because the subject matter could offend Muslims. The digital book, re-telling the classic fairy tale, was rejected by judges who warned that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues". The awards which rejected the book are run by Becta, the government's educational technology agency. The judging panel also attacked the book's stereotyping of builders. The book's creative director, Anne Curtis, said that the idea that including pigs in a story could be interpreted as racism was "like a slap in the face". The CD-Rom digital version of the traditional story of the three little pigs, called Three Little Cowboy Builders, is aimed at primary school children. But judges at this year's Bett Award said that they had "concerns about the Asian community and the use of pigs raises cultural issues". The Three Little Cowboy Builders has already been a prize winner at the recent Education Resource Award - but its Newcastle-based publishers, Shoo-fly were turned down by the Bett Award panel, run the government's technology agency. The feedback from the judges explaining why they had rejected the CD-Rom highlighted that they "could not recommend this product to the Muslim community". They also warned that the story might "alienate parts of the workforce (building trade)". Ms Price said that rather than preventing the spread of racism, such an attitude was likely to inflame ill-feeling. As another example, she says would that mean that secondary schools could not teach Animal Farm because it features pigs? Source BBC News
Total insanity!

The thing that totally cracks me up about this is the way they say it could also “alienate part of the workforce (building trade)”. This is an example of PC at its best/worst.

What else are they going to ban then? Here are just a few suggestions.
1} Richard Bacon presenter of children's programme Blue Peter.
2} Francis Bacon statesman and philosopher.
3} Kevin Bacon actor.
4} Richard Bacon MP for South Norfolk.
5} Pork pie hats.
6} The Chinese year of the pig. (hardly a minority group there being about 1.3 BILLION population circa 2001}
They make take offence at part of their culture being banned to appease Muslims.

As a Jew I am prohibited from eating pork, but I don't take offence.

Good post Dean. You say as a Jew you are prohibited from eating pork and do not take offence. If the truth be known - I am sure the vast majority of Muslims would not be unduly worried or take offence either. The whole bizarre scenario comes about because of white PC zealots who try and outbid each other in the PC stakes. These PC psychopaths cause far more problems than they solve.

Anyone remember how the Robertson’s Jam manufactures, based in Droylsden were forced to remove the Golly logo from their jam jars in 2001? The zealots behind this campaign were by their own actions guilty of the very crime they claim to abhor; racism! They were guilty of stereotyping black people as ‘Golly’s’ and using this negative image to promote their PC agenda. I have many black acquaintances and colleagues and they detest PC zealots trying to speak up on ‘their’ behalf as much as I do.

The Golly Wog was actually designed by a Black Lady who was sick and tired of having no Black dolls for her Daughter.
That is actually a true story something as innocent as this gets draged into the racist bracket

I think we should adopt the Maltese policy of 1565 towards Islam
