According to the well presented and always informative website of Dukinfield ward councillor – John Taylor, local Labour Party members have been distributing free Christmas trees and hampers to local senior citizens. I must applaud the organisers of this scheme as it brings the true meaning of Christmas to the local community. Far too many senior citizens are left cold and lonely over the Christmas period. For this kind gesture I have to say; well done to all involved.It is also worth noting that Cllr Taylor has what appears to be a home made Confederate flag in a prominent position on his website next to a picture of Robert E Lee. He has called it the “Taylor Battle Flag”. I know that a poster on this blog who uses the name Tony DJ is big into the history of the American Civil War, and it is reputed that there is a photograph of him at the famous battlefield of Gettysburg holding a Confederate flag over what was the Union line on the battlefield. It would be interesting to pitch Tony DJ and Cllr Taylor head to head in a quiz to see who the champion is when it comes to knowledge of the American Civil War.

Robert E Lee was a tactical genius and a gentleman. Grant won in the end because the north had numerical superiority and a far larger industrial base.

I believe, sir, that General Lee, refering to the tactics of the Damn Yankees, stated "There are some things that a gentleman does not do."

It's nice to see the free giveaway of Christmas hampers to senior citizens in Dukinfield, but this is not done because of kindness from the heart of our Labour councillors. It is to gain favour with voters and potential Labour voters. It seems that the senior citizens in Britain always seem to rely on charity and handouts. I am not in favour of conning people and throwing them titbits of the forbidden fruit to get their votes. Senior citizens should not have to rely on charity. Brotain have betrayed the pensioners of this country. 25,000 pensioners die becasue of the cold each winter because they cannot afford to pay their heating bills. On the same principle, New Labour have betrayed our Armed Forces, giving them faulty equipment and sending them off to an illegal war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Give the pensoners what they deserve, not charity and handouts.
