Cowardly scum attacks 75 year old man during burglary in Dukinfield

A 75-year-old man fought a robber who broke into his house in Dukinfield. Police are now appealing for the public's help in identifying the attacker. At about 8.00pm on Sunday 16 December 2007 the victim had been at home on Chapel View when he heard someone break into his house. He went to investigate and found the robber searching his bedroom. A scuffle then ensued where the victim hit the offender over the head. However, the robber overpowered the 75-year-old. He stole his wallet with a significant amount of cash in it and ran out of the back door. The offender jumped over the garden wall and ran off down Crescent Road. He is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall and wearing dark clothing with a hood. The 75-year-old suffered a sprained wrist during the robbery, but was not seriously injured. Detective Constable Mark Whittaker said: "There is a pub right next door to the victim's house - the Astley. Its possible that someone there might have seen this man before or after the robbery. "This victim challenged his attacker, but was lucky not to have been more seriously hurt. We want to catch him, and would urge you to get in touch if you know anything." Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 9250 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

I hope they do catch the person. Crime like this is on the rise in Tameside. It wasn't so long back when Richard Ambler challenged the crime figures at a council meeting that Brenda Warrington described them as being "great" and wanting more Tameside Patrollers. We need a shift from employing more traffic wardens and give more funding and power to the police and PCSO's. Our police deserve better.

I have had someone in my family who was attacked in their home years back and had £2,000 stolen. My great aunty, in her 90's was blind and defenceless, yet the scum still floored her damaging her hip. The cunts never got caught.

I am seriously against crime of this nature and it has to stop now. Tameside Council has to recognise that the elderly are being targeted and do something about it and offer them protection and not to the offenders.
