Top of the poppadoms

Chefs at a top Indian restaurant are hoping to scale new heights in their bid to set a world record.Staff at the award-winning Indian Ocean Restaurant, Ashton under Lyne, are aiming to build the biggest ever poppadom tower.Preparation work has been going on around the clock to ensure the attempt next week, during the Tameside Food and Drink Festival, does not prove too tall an order. To break the record they will have to stack more than 300 poppadoms on top of each other. The event will raise funds for Oxfam's relief work in India and Asia.Faz Aslam, marketing manager at the Indian Ocean, said: "We have been putting in a lot of practice and are confident we can do this - not only to get the world record but also to raise money for Oxfam. It should be a really exciting night."Coun Jackie Lane, project head for heritage and tourism, said: "We are very excited about the range of unique and fun activities that have been arranged to celebrate the finest of Tameside's food and drink and we hope local people will join us in the festivities."This borough's food festival, celebrating its fourth year, runs until Sunday, October 14.

John Taylor wants to set the record for shoving as many poppadoms as possible in his gob.

Oxfam has relief work in India? A country with a Space programme and nuclear weapons?

(By the way, what happened to the report of the Dewsbury men on terrorism charges?)

Why is it that John Taylor always runs to the borough solicitor when you send him a letter?

Ex Para

Why dont we all go for a curry at the Indian Ocean. We can sit Liam next to SPP. TonyDJ next to Cllr Bell and Roy West next to Cllr Taylor. It would be an evening of fine food and political posturing. Who's up for it?

You know ex-para, I could go for that!

I reckon we're all pretty mature enough to behave ourselves.

I'm up for it!

I would be up for it, I just wouldn't trust any Labour councillor to put their share to the bill!
