Teenager killed crossing M60 after disturbance

A teenager has died after he was hit by a vehicle as he tried to cross the M60 motorway, police said.It is believed the 16-year-old was a part of a group who were outside a nearby bowling complex when police were called to a disturbance.A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the Hollywood Bowl complex, at Lord Sheldon Way, Ashton-under-Lyne, at around 7pm yesterday. When they arrived, four youths were there. Three ran out of sight and it is believed they crossed open land and went onto the embankment of the nearby M60 motorway. The fourth was stopped nearby by police and was taken home to his parents.Crossing Witnesses said two teenagers were seen successfully crossing both carriageways of the M60 but a third was hit by a vehicle as he tried to cross the anti-clockwise carriageway near junction 23.A police spokesman said he suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. The incident has been reported to Greater Manchester Police's internal affairs branch who have referred it to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.Witnesses are asked to call the road policing unit on 0161 856 8360.

I think that a protest is going to take place out side the Reporter newspaper office to highlight Cllr John Taylor's meeting with the thug that attacked that family in Hyde.

i know this teenager, i pay tax too! think of all the family and friends who are suffering in this disastrous time, how would you feel if it was your child? you are extremely ignorant and selfish individuals.

We'll now here how much of a nice boy he was and he never caused any trouble and he walked old ladies across the road.
This is an example of how many of our kids can get into trouble with the law and sadly this ended in a young man losing his life.
May this be a lesson to people who think they are invinceable

A blog set up without the constraints of political correctness etc. etc....

Sadly this doesn't appear to be true. I posted a comment on the death of Nathan Owen and it seems to have been removed. I hope Tameside Citizen has a very good reason.
The police were called to a disturbance, this usually means a law was being broken. Four youths ran off, 3 across the motorway. As a result Mr. Owen was killed. Was he an innocent bystander at the complex when there was a disturbance, if so, why did he run? Yes, anonymous, I am thinking of his family & friends at this sad time, was he ? If Mr. Owen had no involvement in the disturbance, was there a threat of police brutality? Is this why he ran? There has been no evidence to suggest he had no involvement, therefore with total disregard to traffic on the motorway,(the driver could have been killed), he attempted to cross the motorway. He did not think of his F & F. at this time. I'm neither ignorant , nor selfish. Two of my children have died, so I know how it feels. This suffering of his F & F does not excuse his actions. What if I was driving the car, I would have to live with the fact I killed someone. Whose to blame? society, family, ultimately, his own actions resulted in this tragic series of events. I am sad at his passing, but not sorry.
