Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust are to spend more than £600,000 improving access to dental services for local residents.The money will be spent each year to make sure that every resident in Tameside and Glossop can have access to a full check-up at least every two years.The PCT are also putting money into a new state of the art dental access centre in Hyde. New dental facilities will be provided at the Union Street Clinic, providing one course of treatment to restore a patient to good oral health. Patients will then be helped to find a local dentist for regular care.Anne Rothery, Medical Director at Tameside and Glossop PCT, said: "We are proud of the commitment made by many of our local dentists to the provision of NHS dentistry for our local population."However, there is always more we can do and we recognise that the demand for good dental care is still greater than the supply. It is for this reason we decided to make this massive investment to ensure that there is equality of access for all our residents."We particularly hope that this will improve access for some groups of the population that have traditionally found it difficult to get good dental care."A number of local dentists have also agreed to provide extra appointments to make it even easier for patients to get access to dental care.This service, which is expected to be partially running by January, and fully operational by March, will provide access for 5,000 to 6,000 new patients and will lead to the recruitment of an additional three full time dentists.Patients will also be able to get help finding the right service for their needs from a single call centre number and a new multi-surgery facility is due to open in Ashton in autumn next year to offer specialist services and training for dental students.The investment programme is part of the PCT's strategy to address health inequalities within Tameside and Glossop.* People in Tameside and Glossop, who do not currently have a dentist, can obtain emergency treatment by calling 0161 922 4242, Monday to Friday 9am-4pm. The out of hours emergency service is available to all residents on 08456 018529, weekday evenings from 6.30pm-8am and any time weekends or Bank Holiday.

I had some dealings with Tameside and Glossop Primary Health Care Trust but I found it to be a toothless organisation.
It is interesting that the BNP never seem to comment on issues such as health.
They seem to jump on the ASBO, crime and immigration bandwagon which is so easy to do.
You are absolutely wrong. The BNP has consistently condemned Labour's health policies which have robbed developing countries of their health professionals and turned our NHS into an international health service.
