A New Charter housing estate which sits opposite the historic Moravian settlement in Droylsden could be crowned most improved neighbourhood in a top national awards ceremony this week. Fairfield estate is in the running for the title of “Peaceful and Better Neighbourhood” in the National Housing Federation’s Neighbourhood Awards 2007. Built in 1984, Fairfield comprises 106 homes, a mix of houses, flats and bungalows. Subsequently, inherent design faults were uncovered. When Tameside Council transferred the homes in 2000, New Charter inherited the problems. Most bin stores at the front of homes were not keyed into the main fabric of the buildings. The quality of construction materials used for some homes was poor. Legal wranglings between parties meant many homes were temporarily propped, and this added to a feeling of neglect. Anti-social behaviour stigmatised the estate. But that was then – not now. A concerted effort from landlord and tenants has changed the physical and social environment of Fairfield. New Charter was greatly helped by an active and committed tenants’ association. Fairfield has become a place where people want and choose to live.

I remember having to protest out side Hyde Town Hall to get New Charter to make urgent repairs to my house. The local Reporter came round to feature our story in their paper.
I stood out side the Town Hall with the rotten window frames, so people could see that new Charter had left children at risk. They soon started to make these urgent repairs when I protested out side the Town Hall with a big banner saying, New Charter leave family living in filth conditions.

New Charter Housing tried to make me out to be the villian in the repare scandal, the fact that New Charter housing left a family in filth housing conditions should have been the main concern. When you have got human waste coming through your down stairs toilet, for six months what do you do? New Charter housing gave us three hundred pound for leaving us in filth.

Taylor is a lazy person who doesn't care for the area. I have complained to him many times over issues in the area such as anti social behaviour problems which have all lead into vandalism, litter and noise problems etc.
Everything is all drip fed and in time for an pre-election photo opportunity. Stop playing it's a knock out and get on the real issues. Taylor has left Dukinfield in a mess for years as he must feel confident with his safe seat, only when does start to feel the heat from the BNP he starts to pull a finger out of his arse.
I used to live on Tower Street and have to agree with the comments above.
What is interesting is that Taylor's web page is now mainly full of Longdendale councillors, his own personal bickering with the BNP and Brian Wild playing it's a knock out. Is this really what Dukinfield residents want to see? I think not, it is because Taylor has allowed himself and his party to become more focused on fighting the opposition rather than for the electorate that his rather comfortable seat is now shifting towards to the BNP and his margins are becoming drastically reduced. He only has himself to blame, not the BNP and definitely not the voting public who are ready for change in Tameside.
Dukinfield's motto is "integrity" but there seems to be none coming from Taylor or the Labour party at all.
So what has Taylor been doing for the past few years? Writing nonsense to the local rag, bickering with the BNP and being slow to respond to the peoples needs which he is there to serve professionally. I look forward to the results of next years 2008 elections.
A question to Taylor, who is the GMBTU? You say you are president of the union, but there is little mention of it on the internet and considering it is your page on the Tameside Council website which is one of the sites which rank in the top 10 of Google's SERP makes it look rather fishy to me.
