Operation Cobra

Police in Dukinfield have launched Operation Cobra to prevent violence occurring between local youths.
This follows a serious incident last summer involving youths from Dukinfield and Hyde. Police believe that these confrontations between two groups were regularly organised using a number of networking websites and in some cases involved the use of offensive weapons . PC John-Paul Ruffle, Community Beat Manager for Dukinfield and Stalybridge ward said: “The events of last summer were incredibly out of character for the area and were of great concern to both the police and the local community.
“A dispersal order was put in place in response to the incidents, but this year we are putting measures in place which will hopefully prevent these happening now and in the future.”
Police have sent warning letters to people who have been involved in previous incidents. The letters explain the actions taken against anyone caught taking part or suspected of being involved. There will also be high-visibility patrols by police and police community support officers, the Tameside Patrollers plus the mobile video units will be used in hot-spot areas to deter and deal with any offenders.
PC Ruffle continued: “We would also ask that parents be aware of what their children are doing when they are online. Last year we found that websites were being used to arrange fights and so we will be keeping an eye on the postings and taking action against anyone instigating these confrontations. “Everyone has the right to a safe and fun summer holiday and I would like to warn anyone considering getting involved in anti-social or violent disorder that we will take swift and robust action against them.”
New Charter is the largest landlord in Dukinfield, and is actively supporting the police.
Director of Tenancy Services, Tony Powell said: “Lots of young people in our neighbourhoods are now involved in much more rewarding activities which benefit their community, such as our Dreamscheme. “We don’t want anyone involved in anti-social behaviour. But anyone foolish enough to cause trouble may also be in breach of their or their parents’ tenancy agreement. In the most extreme cases, the consequence could be that they lose their home. But we will take firm action should anyone living in our homes be responsible.”
If anyone has any information on anti-social behaviour and violent disorder in your area please contact police on 0161 856 9511 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

TALKING TO LOCAL FOLK IN DUKINFIELD ABOUT CRIME AND YOB-VIOLENCE HAS BECOME A PART OF MY ESSENTIAL CAMPAIGN IN THE AREA. PEOPLE WANT ACTION NOT JUST WORDS.TIME HAS COME FOR ACTION AGAINST YOBS ON OUR STREETS.

When my wife was attacked in the street by thugs-i knew that i had to make a stand-many people also wanted to make a stand-but lack of faith in the police and local politicians prevented them. This is the reality in fearful Britain-2007. We have streets of fear and yob violence.

Why are we always having to struggle to get things done. we know who the thugs are in the area causing the trouble, so why is nothing being done about these yobs?

If people lack confidence in the local police in dealing with yobs, then what the hell are we going to do?

Mr Silly would like to ask Mr West a few questions about the police.
Mr Silly: Mr West, Your confidence in the police must have fell down to a very low level during this time of violence against your family?
Mr West: "Of course, you must realize that the police were very slow to attend incidents of violence at our home."
Mr Silly: This violence from thugs in the area?
Mr West: "yes, It took the police upto four to five days to come to my house after thugs had smashed my living room windows"
Mr Silly: Did the police give you a reason for their lateness?
Mr West: "Not enough police officers"
Mr Silly: Did the police know these thugs?
Mr West: "Of course they did, the police spent most of their time running around after them."
Mr Silly: Do you regret coming forward to give evidence against these scum-thugs?
Mr West: "Well in this case I could only say yes very much regret coming forward."
Mr Silly: "Mr West, Thank you.
Mr West: Thank you Mr Silly."
