Stockport to Stalybridge Driver's Cab View

I have been sent this interesting (to anoraks such as I ) piece of drivers cab footage from a Stockport to Stalybridge passenger train which was filmed in 1989. This service is now discontinued apart from the ridiculous Friday only parliamentary service however there is an active campaign by the Friends of Reddish South and the Friends of Denton Station campaign groups to have this useful line fully reopened to passenger traffic. Considering the appalling road traffic congestion in the area I think most people would wish them luck as the more transport options available to the travelling public the better.

You forget that TMBC and Stockport MBC are supportive of the re-opening of this line but then it wouldn't be cool to give credit to the local councils. Would it?

You are correct and both authorities do indeed deserve credit for backing the proposed reopening. I have said many times before that TMBC may not be perfect but they are by no means the worst local authority in the area. Compared to places such as Rochdale, Tameside is a well run borough. There are parts of neighbouring Manchester which are a total disgrace where even the basics such as street cleaning is overlooked. So credit where credit is due and well done to both local authorities for supporting this scheme.

Waste of money, space and effort. Tarmac it and capacity and usage would go up by tens of thousands of per cent.

Did you hear the one about the Irishman who decided to kill himself by jumping under a train. Unfortunately he picked this line and died of old age while he was waiting.
Seriously that is the most mesmerisingly boring video I've ever seen.

@15/12/2013 21:03 it's difficult to give credit to those that seek around the borough posting third party smear leaflets.
And trying to incite others to carry out acts of violence against their political rivals.
But, boy when they get some of their own medicine back they don't like it.

So Tameside is a well run Borough
TC.
I never thought that statement could be made by anyone in Tameside who
deplores the manipulations and deceptions this Council produces.
Not sure what support that would bring TC,I thought the majority wanted a massive change and the dumping of the many in charge.
PS Have we lost you too the huge gravy train passengers ??

No the passengers are still there well placed to continue the gravy train ride.
While they pretend to care about the poor and homeless the Christmas period

JTS, the cab ride video may be boring to non-enthusiasts, but to those interested in railways and rail infrastructure it makes excellent viewing as you get the opportunity to see the line in its entirety from an angle (the drivers cab) from which the general public rarely see.

With regards to Tameside being a "well run borough". Please do not take what I said out of context. If you read what I said again I said "compared to" and purposely named a truly dreadful local authority as a comparison.

My mission in life is not to knock Tameside Council just for the sake of it. Where there is justification for criticism, criticism will be forthcoming but where praise is due, as in this case where they are supporting the initiative to reopen this rail line to passengers services praise will be given.

Come on TC whenever TMBC supports
anything you need to clarify what really their objectives are.
Never forget its a me me self group of individuals whose role in life is to make money for themselves and secure their positions with votes at all costs, full stop.
How do they figure against the rest of the Greater Manchester Councils excluding Rochdale.
Its almost always at the bottom
of league tables for everything.
Hospital Deaths,Crime and dreadful
Education for the kids,Councillors with hardly any administration backgrounds, and what we all know is a thuggish non democratic Council who breed nepotism faster than rabbits.

You won't get an argument from me on those points raised. I am well versed on the sleaze, nepotism and careerism which exists in this borough. You need to look no further than the absolute non-negotiable position of the ruling Labour clique when it comes to reducing (jobs for the boys) the number of councillors. Lollypop ladies can easily be dispensed with as a cost saving effort, but don't dare ask them to reduce the number of councillors.
