Denton goes pizza crazy

Has anyone passing through Denton or Haughton Green over the last week spotted the incredibly happy looking Asian chaps walking round waving at cars and pedestrians while wearing, yes wearing super size Domino’s pizza boxes? I saw them on a number of occasions and thought what an embarrassing sales gimmick and a guaranteed fail.

How wrong I was. When I drove past Domino’s at Crown Point tonight I was amazed to see it so busy that people were literally queuing out onto the street in a bid to get their hands on the ‘any pizza, any size for £5.99’ deal.. In fact the photo does not do the queue justice because there were other people queuing who were out of shot.

So there you have it, if you have a retail business which is struggling in these challenging times, put on a promotional offer, kit yourself out in a large gimmicky sandwich board advertising your wares and before you know it you will have customers queuing down the street.

Is Denton a predominantly asian area or is this yet another example of employment discrimination?

Whatever the case it shows the disrespect for human dignity that is inherent in a money driven society. Men walking around in cardboard boxes to inflate the profits of ruthless businessmen.

Globalisation drags people away from their mother soil, tongue and culture, places people in alien lands, all thoughts of their forefathers abandoned, and what for?

To sell more high calorie low nutrition junk food to the bloated remains of what once were called Englishmen!

I saw the cheerful chap today at the junction of Stamford road/Shepley road.
He seemed happy enough as I tooted my horn as I drove past.
I thought it was a brilliant marketing ploy, not often seen nowadays.
It's a job I would hate to do, but if it helped pay 'the bills' dress me up in pizza boxes and I'm your man.
I suppose some people would rather the welfare state pay all their bills and contribute nothing to society.

Muggins by name...
There is a point when taking pride in having a job crosses the border with exploitation and you become a mug or victim of exploitation.
In many countries that's already the case. In the western world, with it's chronic wage suppression and rocketing cost of living, it's getting very close.
All this to prop up capitalism, a system that once worked well for the vast majority but now increasingly looks like it's failing, and becoming instead a tool to make the elite wealthier and more powerful and oppress and exploit everyone else.
In my view anyone who'd take a job like that has got too little pride, or doesn't mind looking an idiot.

Too right, I'd rob banks before walking round dressed like a prick to maximise someone else's profits.

The human pizza box might be an immigrant, they're easy to exploit and work for peanuts. Apparently Brits are too lazy. A few are, most of the rest have outrageous demands like, a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.

Sweeton was on Tameside FM today saying Hyde Market is to be halved in size and the site pedestrianised. This is bad news for Hyde.

Anonymous said...

TMBC have already played a significant part in making Denton and Droylsden 9th and 10th in the entire country for the highest percentage of closed down shops in the high street.

Ghost Town said...

Sweeton was singing the praises of Crown Point North which has masses of free parking. He was then asked about the plan to charge motorists using the top two levels on the Hyde multistory and he said it was an economic necessity but his fellow Labourite councillor Peter Robinson insisted at the planning meeting thet charging is a must.

It is this kind of reckless behaviour that helped destroy Stalybridge as a shopping centre. These days there are more traffic wardens than shoppers in Stalybridge.

Ghost Town I went to the public event for Hyde Market and Civic Square. The plans look great for Hyde. Yes the market will be reduced but with new stalls, a new Civic Square and other plans Sweeton needs congratulating. At least Hyde is not being forgotten. And the council are not giving up on the market. The plans as I saw them also allows for the market to expand again if it needs to. And listening to the Market Traders they were all up for the changes

Regarding Hyde I reckon it has one of the most disgusting town centre parking area`s opposite Iceland.
For years TMBC have done nothing to address the mud, potholes, and pockets of water which are features of this Car Park and then have the audacity to charge one of the highest rates in Greater Manchester.
In winter its been an utter disgrace as a car park, but then that`s our penalty for having a scum filled Council for years.

Duki Voter said...

Exactly, John is loved in this community that is why he gets elected every time he stands for election. On the other hand West gets rejected every time he stands. It seems to me that West is suffering from jealous bad loser syndrome.

Right, come on Roy. Time to stop this nonsense once and for all. Face the facts, the electorate rejected you and voted in John. They voted for John because he is a gentleman and champion for the people of Duki. Try accepting your defeat in an honourable way as other candidates do. You are doing your own and your parties prospects for the future no good with your vendetta campaign.

Come on Roy, be a real man and take your defeat like a man instead of a spoilt crybaby who cannot accept losing.

Now tell us your opinion on the pizza promotion and the redevelopment of neighbouring Hyde. Let us hear how you think Duki can reinvigorated and prove to us that there is more to your political world than your constant campaign against your local democraticly elected councillors.

Come on Roy, time to grow up and convince me why I should vote for you instead of constantly telling people why to not vote for your opponent.

No more blue links to videos. Let's debate here and now Roy. Let's see what your metal is made of.

Ghost Town. If you contact the council I'm sure they have plans. New market stalls are planned and over £1 million investment in Hyde. I don't agree with the free parking. Most towns charge for parking. I'm happy to pay wherever I visit or I find free on street parking and walk. I think too many people blame car park charges for the plight of town centers. Personally I don't mind paying the couple of quid to park. It's just I don't have so much cash to spend these days cos it's all going on gas, electricity, car insurance etc

Anonymous said...

I'm with Duki Voter. John has done a lot of good for Dukinfield and the people of Dukinfield which is why he gets voted in. The only time I've seen him angry is when West is following down the street with a video. don't blame JT for that. West is the problem. He needs to grow up.

Ghost Town said...

Anon, take my word. One of the main reasons why Crown Point North, the Trafford Centre and supermarkets succeed while small traditional town centres fail is down to free parking. Petty as it may seem, especially when someone is on a shopping expedition where they may spend £100’s, they still resent paying £2 to park the car and they would sooner use £5 in petrol to drive to shopping location where they can park for free. I know it sounds illogical but that is human nature for you.

Ghost Town said...

I must add, Tameside has the most incredibly infuriating parking ticket dispensers in the whole of Britain if not the world. The ridiculous ritual of entering your registration number on a badly designed non-intuitive key pad is enough to make anyone blow their top. You try going through that rigmarole on wet windy day and then realising you don’t know your registration number and have to walk back across the car park to get it, then enter it on the annoying non-qwerty keypad, then pay and walk back across the wet and windy car park to stick it on your windscreen. You then arrive back from shopping two minutes after your ticket expired and find a £60 fixed penalty noticed stuck to your windscreen. I have watched over-zealous traffic wardens hovering around cars in Ashton waiting for the tickets to expire so they can pounce with their fixed penalty notice.

Duki Voter, Taylor gets voted in because he wears a red rosette.
Large numbers of the Borough's voters are of low intelligence and automatically vote Labour locally and nationally. Despite them nearly wrecking the economy, their policy of uncontrolled mass immigration ( I've never met a labour voter not vehemently opposed to it, but they still vote Labour), and all the other damage they did to Britain in thirteen years of misrule.
Tameside Labour's 'use' of the totally insecure postal voting system, manipulation of the local Press, and use of Labour funded far left groups if things look tight helps keep things 'healthy'. Plus probably the worst Tory opposition group in the country. If Taylor retired tomorrow any successor standing for Labour would win easily.
Stand against them if you want to find out what a vile organisation they really are.

Ghost Town. I think you will find it's not the free car parking but the shops that attract people to the Trafford Centre etc. And don't be fooled into thinking it's free parking. The Managing Agents will be covering the car park provision in it's rent to retailers. They in turn will be passing it onto customers via charges etc. It's so easy to blame car park charges and local councils for the changing shopping habits of people. Out of town shopping is what people want and they are happy to pay for their car parking via the charges in the shops. And then blame car park charges for the demise of traditional town centers.

Ghost Town said...

Anon@14.51. I speak from personal experience and I assure you that free car parking is a major contributing factor to a successful shopping area. You quote the Trafford Centre but ignore Crown Point North. CPN is not ‘out of town’, it is in the heart of Denton. I have already said I find the mentality of people who would prefer to drive just to get free parking strange, but I am afraid it is fact of life.

The only way small towns shops in places like Hyde can survive is if the council takes a long term approach and makes them car friendly. Forget all the bull about environmental targets and public transport. People like to go shopping in their cars and if that becomes difficult in one location they will simply move to next destination which is car friendly.

Anonymous said...

Ghost Town. I did not miss out Denton Crown Point deliberately and I agree with you to a point. If you look at Crown Point North it offers the shoppers what they want. the retailers want to go to these units and the shoppers want to go there. The so called free parking is paid through the charges the shops make. This is what is affecting town centres and free parking in Hyde, Stalybridge will not have an effect on the town centre shops. This is a fact because if you look at Stalybridge you can park free on Tesco and Aldi. in Hyde there are plenty of on street 'free' perking as well as free parking at Morrisons and £1 at Asda. The fact is people will go to destinations like Crown Point North, Trafford Centre for the shops. So called free parking might be a bonus but that is not stopping shopping in Hyde and Stalybridge. Peoples shopping habits have changed and we need to understand that. It is so simple to blame car park charges for the plight of town centers.

The social housing requirements of new immigrants will cost the tax payer £1 billion a year for the next twenty five years. That is the conclusion of a study published by Migrationwatch today.
The study found that 45 additional social homes would have to be built every day, or nearly 1400 a month, over that period to meet the extra demand.
The failure to build local authority housing to compensate for council houses that have been sold off led to a fall of about half a million in the number of social homes available between 1997 and 2007. This, combined with high levels of immigration, has led to an increase of nearly 60% in the waiting lists for social housing in England over the last eight years.

Ghost Town said...

Anon@15.21. It is difficult to disagree with much of what you say but we will never see eye to eye on the parking issue. In my opinion what the council gains in parking fees and fines it loses in business rates and other spin-offs gained from having bustling and vibrant town centres.

Take a trip to Chelmsford in Essex and see their bustling town traditional town centre, Altringham is another to look at. Both are car friendly and as a result they attract the custom which attracts the well known stores and the cycle repeats just as does the unfortunate cycle which is now hampering the prosperity of Hyde and Stalybridge town centres.

Could we meet in the middle and suggest that one possible way out of this cycle for the unfortunate towns in decline would be for them to specialise and exploit the fact they have a daily market or some other unique selling point which would reinvigorate and stem the decline?

Ghost Town. I don't think we disagree too much. I think much of it will be simple economics. In terms of town centres we need to ensure towns like Hyde specialise and from what I see of the council's new plans this should give Hyde the opportunity of becoming a thriving market town with specialised small retailers to compliment. I suppose we have to recognise that the soical problems that we have in urban areas like Tameside e.g Social Services, poor housing etc means that car parking fees help balance the books.

Re car parking fees, perhaps we could scrap them as no-one is seriously suggesting that would have anything other than a beneficial effect on town centres.
The money could come from getting rid of two-thirds of our 57 councillors which currently costs £1.25 million a year. We don't need one councillor for every 3700 people, in a boom let alone a recession. Also cut Steven Pleasant's salary by 25%, that would save another £46,000.
But of course as we know, the upper echelons of the public sector are exempt from the effects of the recession, that's for the ordinary people, like the ones who are completely skint of have had a pay cut or have lost their job, who now have to pay to find the money to pay to park. The expansion of such schemes is utter lunacy in a recession, but the massive money sponge that is TMBC needs the money. If the council was a private concern it would have gone bust with mega debts decades ago.

taylor's share of the vote has been going up and westy's share has been going down. it's an open and shut case, duki wants taylor not west

say what you like about the allowances they get i'd want more than 11 grand a year basic to put up with a psycho like westy on my case, wouldn't you? how would you feel with a weirdo hanging about with a camcorder outside your gaff?

westy should be grateful he lives in a liberal democracy. in the fascist regime he's campaigning for they'd chuck him in a loony bin and throw away the key, that is if they didn't exterminate him as untermenschen

c'mon westy, show us the money, how much are we funding you? if you are too mad to work i'm happy to fund you as care in the community, but you shouldn't go about pesting community champions like taylor. your antisocial behaviour is no better than the rioters.

time to get a grip and deal with your demons on the shrink's couch -not on youtube

But what do you want me to do about that? present you with a medal John?

All these councillors are worth it Mr West. You take public monies and do naff all for it. Get over it. The people of Dukinfield voted for Taylor and others. Decent, hard working local Labour councillors

"Mad Hatters Tea Party" local nutter said...

taylor voter why do you feel the need to tell me all that?
The only thing that matters to him, is making money and his holidays, his house in the sun.
If you vote for him so what! do you need approval from me?

Anonymous said...

You are probably one of them. Most people don't think they are worth the money.
And no one in Dukinfield believes that, £430,000 in the last 8 years for Taylor/Wild/Lane is worth it.
And my new leaflet is getting that response from residents.

Anonymous said...

Mr West you seem a wee bit embarrassed about your own allowances. I wonder why? A bet over 8 years they add up a fair bit. Probably more than all 3 Dukinfield councillors put together.

Sticky-Vicky-Veevers said...

Not as much as you seem to be embarrassed staying in the shadows.

Ok Ronnie Rabbit I'll post all my personal details on this blog.

I wish threads wouldnt always go this way, I've said it before and I'll say it again, not every discussion has to end up about that ex-con Liebour parasite Taylor.

Nonetheless I have to stick up for Roy here. Roy works tirelessly (and I mean tirelessly) to expose the corruption and the greed of TMBC.

There plenty of others on far greater amounts of benefits who sit around, eat junk food, raise shitty low quality chav and/or mongrel children and are happy to make their neighbours lives hell.

On the other hand, Roys neighbour has done his best to make Roys life hell all over some petty argument they had.

Roy knows that in being so vocal he will attract the insults and slander of people who want to bleed this nation dry and turn it into a third world cesspit under the direct control of EU Marxists, and yet he carries on and takes all the shit that people throw at him.

Its easy to snipe at Roy and people like him but its much harder to fight campaign after campaign against vested powers and the opinionated and ignorant masses like Roy and a brave few others do.

Because it's none of your business.
But if you come round to my house and ask me, I'll consider telling you.

SerpentSlayer I've got some Tee shirts done for Hyde DA.
Jim Fitzpatrick won't like to see it.
But he's going to.

Ronnie Rabbit said...

Serpentslayer the debate earlier today was about our town centers and what could be done to invigorate them. unfortunately mr west whom you defend started with his usual posts of telling us all again what councillor expenses are. No debate just a load of figures. So the debates go from bad to worse because West cannot debate but just go on and on with the usual rubbish. He is not exposing anything. All councillor expenses are available for all to see.

Ronnie Rabbit said...

Oh and he's got some T shirts. Great

Roy West said...

The tactic is, to go to these council events/meetings wearing these tee shirts, of Cllrs expenses.
I know they don't like it up em.
Like Fitzpatrick kicking off with me the other week at the Town Hall.
People don't like these cllrs expenses, so why not advertise their expenses.
I've already got these expenses leaflets coming soon.

Anonymous said...

Ronnie Rabbit most people don't know how much these cllrs are making.
You can see that with the response of my expenses leaflet.
most people don't go on the internet.

Ronnie Rabbit said...

Ok Roy but what is your point? Are you proposing unpaid councillors? How does Tameside councillor expenses compare? To just keep quoting them might initially shock those not aware but then they may think basic allowances of £11k s more than reasonable

Anonymous said...

SerpentSlayer the FACT, that, taylor/wild/lane has cost the people of Dukinfield £430,000 in the last 8 years, shocks people.
I know because I'm putting out a leaflet about the scam at the moment.
People are angry that Taylor's made £200,000 in the last 8 years.
It's the best leaflet I've put out.
Leaving aside the last BNP card.

Congratulations on paying taxes for the last 40 years. You must be delighted all that money's gone to turning large parts of Britain into rapidly growing Third World cesspits.

There are a few comments which appear to have been posted here in the heat of the moment. If anyone feels their reputation is being harmed by allegations being made please email me and point me in the right direction and I will be happy to delete them.

I was quite enjoying reading the debate about the regeneration of small towns until everything went off on a tangent of its own. I think I will scan and post the article from this weeks Advertiser about parking revenues so the topic can be debated more thoroughly.

You can see them stood outside the pubs and even Labour Clubs having a smoke in the freezing cold and rain. Their own Party, desperate to suck up to the EU, rammed through the smoking ban that's finished thousands of pubs and clubs. Other countries like Portugal and the Netherlands ignored it, looked out for their citizens and demanded exemptions.
But those pillocks, freezing while they have a fag still vote Labour.

A shocking catalogue of costly mistakes at the Home Office’s UK Border Agency meant £26million had to be written off in the last financial year.
And the agency paid out £13million of benefits in error to would-be refugees since April 2008.
Astonishingly, a further £41million has had to be set aside in special accounts to cover more bungles,
including bad debts, overpayments and compensation claims, this year.

The agency’s accounts reveal £12million was overpaid last year to just six hostel owners for providing asylum seekers’ accommodation.
Embarrassingly for the agency’s Home Office bosses, £4.3million ended up incorrectly in the pockets of the agency’s own staff.

Failure to update salary changes and annual leave entitlements on payroll systems meant the agency overpaid more than 2,500 employees by an average of about £1,700 each.

Meanwhile three refugees who were unlawfully detained while border officials investigated their claims ended up being paid more than £330,000 each last year in compensation.
And settlements worth £2.1million were reached with 40 under-18s who were wrongly detained as adults – an average of £52,000 each.

Yet in spite of the mistakes, 29 senior officials were paid £295,000 in bonuses in 2009. Bernard Jenkin, chairman of the Commons Public Administration Committee said: “The public administration of the civil service has become increasingly dysfunctional.
“The whole basis of civil administration in the UK has to be a huge agenda for the new government.”

The losses are detailed in the Border Agency’s annual report, published last week. Most embarrassing of the errors is the £13.1million in benefits overpaid to asylum seekers in the past two years.
Officials found that payments still being made to claimants when support should have ended totalled £9.6million during 2008/09 and £3.5million during 2009/10.
About £1.9million went to asylum seekers whose applications had already failed.
Agency chief executive Lin Homer said: “Overpayments should not be happening and we are committed to seeing them dramatically reduced. It is crucial that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.”
