The Myth of Escape

"Billy finds himself in a cell next to Alex. Neither Billy nor Alex are quite sure what they have done wrong. Perhaps nothing. It doesn't seem to matter. Someone wanted them imprisoned and so they have been.

Absurdist political drama about isolation, oppression and fighting to hold onto everything you believe in."

Sounds interesting? I suspect some of the commenter’s on this blog can relate to the above scenario. Those lines are taken from a drama which will be performed at the Hyde Festival Theatre on Tuesday 19th July.

The production is brought to Tameside by Salford based Happystorm Theatre.

I will be going, will any TC contributors be going too?

If you ‘don’t do theatre’ the reason is probably fear of the unknown. There is absolutely nothing intimidating about attending a theatre performance, and I will bet you anything that once you have attended and enjoyed you will want to attend future performances.

Just as watching sports on TV is not as good as being at the event the same applies to drama - there is no substitute for a good live performance.

So if you find yourself at loose end on the 19th July and you have a little money to spare why not do something different and support this production and the Tameside Arts Festival by attending? Tameside Citizen

A very worthwhile blog subject, but equally having just watched the BBC3 reality filmed army platoon on duty in Afghanistan,my anger has peaked at how the 18/19 year olds are still being slaughtered to achieve what ??
This accurate and highly filming of reality should be on BBC 1 at peak time after the watershed (language)
Whilst the lying f------ bastards like Alastair Campbell (Blairs mate) made sure we went gung ho into Iraq based on his and Blairs recognised lies,he features in last weekends press kicking a bloody football about, and earning large amounts of money for being a confirmed brazen piece of shite.
So like the drama The Myth of Escape may well be an further dose of reality which adds to our education, and very worthwhile my heart and mind is with the poorly armed brave lads and lasses pounding the ambush area`s of Afghanistan waiting for a bullet or land-mine to end their lives, whilst the politicians at all levels make it an essential
objective to screw expenses and underhand payments out of the taxes paid by those serving on the front line and their families.
Put all the bastards in politics on the front line before anyone else, and watch them squeal, run, abscond and crap themselves 24/7 because thats who they are.
Having served in the Army its time
the brain dead of Tameside were made to view this first filmed in action reality as a Man Down is
frantically supported by his mates.
My close relative faced the vicious Israeli
gangs in Palestine who murdered British soldiers in 44/45 on their rampage to achieve a piece of someone else`s land.and got away with it.
Vast numbers in the UK never served,or knew the fear encountered
waiting for the enemy and heard the screams of their mates, yet we end up in Tameside with a sack full of vile shit ruling our daily lives, and screwing us at the same time.
Please watch this BBC 1 hour film as well as going to the Theatre to see The Myth of Escape.
The more you know tells you that Politicians are the walking scum in our midst.

This sounds good getting to hyde at night doesn't. The problem is that most theatres that show actual plays (as opposed to rubbish musicals or celebrity populated trash) are often hard to reach by public transport.

Hopefully one day their will be a wide variety of plays on offer to people at affordable prices.

great post by anon at 23.01 - lets have more of the same please. We have bowed down to the hypocrites for far too long and we must let them know that one day they will pay for their crimes against humanity.

I went to the Dukinfield Assembly meeting last night and can confirm the abysmal turnout of about sixteen. I recognized Mr West.
The panel was a PCSO, a Police sergeant, a fireman, three Labour councillors, Sweeton, Wild (chairman) and Shorrock, the town manager whatever that is, a woman with an obscure title, a woman taking the minutes and a trendy looking young man on the end. There was a report by the PCSO and the copper, everything's wonderful crime and disorder wise apparently. A bit of mumbling from Councillor Wild about various other business, and a couple of questions about minor traffic issues and a stolen blue bin from the 'audience'.
Everything's great in Dukinfield, no-one's got any concerns (or gives a toss judging by the turnout) and judging by the other DAs I've been to, Tameside must be fairly great as well.
Duki's all Labour councillors and so the deal's done, everyone's happy and 'in agreement'.
John Bell gets a lot of mostly justified stick but at one of the Hyde DAs I went to he at least tried to rock the boat with a couple of challenging questions that unsettled some of the Labourites on the panel.
That's the value of opposition. But in Duki there is none, not from councillors or, apparently, the apathetic public.
