A record 2,295 town hall employees are raking in six-figure salaries, a report reveals today.
And 686 of them get paid more than the Prime Minister’s annual salary of £142,500.
The number of bosses pocketing more than £100,000 a year soared by 18 per cent in the past 12 months and 48 chiefs were paid over £250,000
The pay rates were revealed by the TaxPayers’ Alliance, whose spokesman Matthew Sinclair said: “Councils insist cuts can only mean pressure on frontline services but they clearly have money to spend when it comes to paying their own senior staff.”
Local Government Association chief executive John Ransford said councils “need to pay competitive wages” to attract good staff.

I've just been told that TC will be producing a "Tameside Council Rich List" for 2011 similar to ones seen in the Sunday Times magazine. It's going to seriously upset some of the council's lower paid workers.
