Large Buzzard eating
Until relatively recently I had no idea what type of bird a buzzard was. If asked I would have probably took a guess at a scavenging bird which lives in America.
I first encountered buzzards while walking the dogs in Denton Woods and the surrounding area a few years back. When I first saw a buzzard I was amazed - I thought I had spotted a Golden Eagle or something equally as exotic. I didn’t realise that we had such large graceful birds in Tameside. Now I see them all the time and they never fail to impress me. To watch them soar in the sky riding on thermal currents is quite amazing.
Watching buzzards from a distance is easy when you know what you are looking for but getting close enough to film them is another challenge all together due to their incredible eyesight - that is why I am very proud of this short film. Admittedly I did cheat by using a remote camera - but still, I think even the BBC would say I did pretty well to have the camera in the right place at the right time when the buzzard landed to eat. If you look at the size of the buzzard compared to the magpies - paying particular attention to the thickness of its legs compared to ordinary birds I think you will be impressed.
Next time you are out in a clearing close to woodland - especially if rabbits are in the vicinity, look skyward or to the treetops if you see a large imposing bird and it may well be a buzzard.

The best footage ever posted on this blog, and of my favourite bird. How did you know it would land near that spot?
Shame it didn't kill those magpies as they decimate the local smaller bird's young, killing everything in the nest.
Enjoy the buzzards while you can.The RSPB and scientists have been given the go-ahead for a massive cull of avian predators including buzzards and magpies. They are to be wiped out so that songbirds can thrive.
You can see it is far bigger than the other birds but they don't seem too bothered by its presence.
If you study the issue you'll see the cull, espesially of Magpies, crows and certain raptors is long overdue.
Tameside election news flash.
West to swap with Duki/Stay candidate.
Nice footage of the Buzzard
Having read again the exploits of Prince Andrew Duke of York and his very sleazy associates, perhaps its not well known that this person the now most senior UK Ambassador for business deals (pardon the laugh)actually took over from the Duke of Kent the most senior Freemason in the World who also spent his time flying around keeping the Masonic flag flying with the objective of reeling in more freemasons onto the square.
This dysfunctional group of Royal family members have been nothing other that sleazy, self serving, foreign blood line parasites who preferred the UK as a safer haven to ensure the survival of their high life rule.
With Andrew as the Masonic cheerleader around the globe his position is more than safe, whilst we pay for his sordid life style.
If a politician had had a picture taken with his arm round a known child prostitute his feet wouldn't have touched the ground.

Sounds like an attempt at MORE redevelopment, i.e. MORE housing. TMBC couldn't care less about overcrowding and overloading the local infrastructure, they just want more council tax in the trough.

These are the cretins sabotaging our
lives with spin,duplicity and deceptions.
They should be the first to be axed in Tameside, and lets have some fresh air into our region.
Time to discredit these ars------
John, you raise many valid points, but please stop going off topic from the blog. Why don't you set up your own blog to post your comments to?
This article on the Destruction in Denton ie the bus stop.
Most people know by now!
That, it's just not worth getting involved anymore.
New charter inform me today, that, they have had to re-place three or four sections of the new fencing, round Glenmore Bungalows due to vandalism.
These Labour Mafia types, know, that folk are just going to ignore what they see.
And I say, who can blame them.
You see! This place! Is just up the road.
But seems a Million miles AWAY from vandalised bus stops.
Anyone know what's happened at Stock's Inn? Cordons and loads of police.
Whatever it is, no one really cares.
Woof.
You are a dick.
Wonder what percentage of comments are productive or informative.
ie Woof-you are a dick.
Is that the way to get rid of our stinking corrupt Council?
and if Police Dog happens to be a Councillor or is linked, you contributed nothing.
Police Dog, go and drop one on Taylor's front lawn.
BBC1 'Neighbourhood Watched' tells us all we need to know about Tameside after 13 years of Labour. Layabout gobby dickhead in comfy flats, whilst genuine guy wanting to work stuck in a shared B&B. What a sorry picture it paints.
I was walking past the area the police had taped off last night. There was about four police cars parked up outside the estate agents. I spotted two other police cars including a dog handling van waiting at the bottom of Mottram Old Road. I would be interested to know what went on too.
That's all the police are good at. Police cordons, and a roll of police tape round the area.
Listen to Zoe Hamilton's pathetic excuses for her failure to act on this case.
It's funny how the Greater Manchester set of "leaders" get to keep their jobs or passed around from council to council and quango to quango.
This years award 'for best police cordon' Goes to GMP.
A magnificent series of GMP police cordons, were seen by a celebrity audience.
Zoe Hamilton explained.
'It's important that local people are assured, that we are actually policing the streets.'
She went on to explain that. 'without these magnificent police cordons from time to time, the public would not even know we were in the community.
Supt Zoe Hamilton was very unimpressive in front of the cameras when speaking to the media about the tragic death of David Asgew. She was awkward, nervous and inarticulate.
We can only presume that she has attained her rank solely due to 'positive discrimination' which allows unsuitable and talentless women such as Zoe Hamilton and Sandra Stewart to rise to the top, much to the annoyance of better qualified and more able men.
Nobody takes such women seriously anyway.
Peter, I have some far better footage to come of the buzzard swooping down and scattering the magpies and blackbirds who are eating its food. I will post it the near future.
I knew there were buzzards in the area of where I have created my own micro nature-reserve. I have foxes, badgers and hedgehogs by night and all manner of birds by day - plus the occasional non-nocturnal fox.
I have left various types of food to attract wildlife. Most birds like seeds, nuts and sausage rolls. The buzzard will tolerate sausage rolls but the food it lives for is minced beef. It becomes very territorial when I leave it mince beef and it has no desire to share it with other birds.
You will enjoy the next footage.
Just like Labour's Shadow Cabinet:
Harriet Harman,
Yvette Cooper,
Caroline Flint,
Maria Eagle,
Angela Eagle (AKA Butch),
Baroness Scotland, Shadow Attorney General, who 'accidentally' employed an illegal immigrant for years,
And last and most definitely least Tessa bloody Jowell about whom no more needs to be said.
A total lack of talent, ability, charisma and tainted by the failure of the most incompetent, traitorous and wasteful government in our history. Miliband hasn't got the guts to stand up to Harman the Gorgon so he's stuck with this bunch of harpies.
To be fair, when you look at the men:
Ed Miliband (I won the leadership guv honest, it was one man twelve votes, straight as a corkscrew),
Ed Balls, the engineer of Labour's economic catastrophe who is now...yes you guessed it Shadow Chancellor,
Liam 'there's no money left, ain't it a scream' Byrne,
Peter 'permatan' Hain, the former anti-apartheid warrior,
Shaun Woodward, ex-Tory turncoat,
Douglas Alexander, shadow Foreign Secretary, marked by seven years in the cabinet of failure etc etc.
What a shower, and after writing about that lot I need one.
"
What a shower, and after writing about that lot I need one."
LOL.
Hey Anonymous,
I agree with Police Dog. You are, indeed, a dick.

Jonathan Reynolds: May we have a debate on the future of the Forensic
Science Service? I recently the visited the northern firearms unit in
Manchester to see the work of one of my constituents and his colleague.
Significant concerns exist that the impartiality, quality and
round-the-clock coverage provided by that unit will be lost under the
Government's hasty closure plans.
Forensic Science is a seldom used service, its costly, takes weeks if your lucky, and is not utilised
in the vast percentage of crime cases, and the Police prefer not to get involved in the Forensic Science high costs.
